Ross duo bring titles home from Andrews tourney
WEXFORD BOXERS had mixed fortunes in Dublin last weekend in the Michael Andrews tournament.
Tommy Stevens (St. Mary's, New Ross) and Vytadids Tataiwis (St. Michael's, New Ross) both won their finals on Sunday.
Tommy Murphy of Sacre Coeur in Enniscorthy lost his final on Saturday, having injured his arm in the second round. He was ahead at the time.
Wayne Garner (St. Mary's) was beaten in his final on Sunday, retiring in the second round.
Mickey Walsh (St. Michael's) got a walkover in his weight while Paddy Nolan (Gorey) advanced to the final which will be held on October 19 when the nationals start.
Best of luck to the boys and girls who will be taking part in the upcoming championships.

There will be boxing this weekend on Saturday and Sunday in Pearse Road, Enniscorthy, starting at 2 p.m. both days.
Sacre Coeur Boxing Club (Enniscorthy) will be hosting a tournament in the Castle Nite Club on Saturday next, October 20, with the doors opening at 7.30 p.m. sharp.
Come and see the up and coming stars the club have like Saoirse Kirwan, Leanne Coffey, Oran Carthy, Ryan Kirwan, Bobbie Hendrick and of course our seasoned boxers Jack Lee Jackson, Dayle Nolan, Jack Morrissey (European bronze medalist), Dylan Murphy and many more take on the best that Leinster and Munster have to offer.
St. Ibar's/C.B.S. boxing clubs are jointly hosting a tournament in the Riverbank Hotel in aid of the Console charity on Sunday, October 28. Doors open at 7.30 p.m. sharp.
The two clubs will be taking on tough opposition with a team coming from Cork.
Among the bouts will be local lads Vlad Komarshchuk, Dean Walsh, James Crean, Nigel Clancy, Shane Dooley, Joe Whelan and Ben Robinson. Please come and show your support for this worthy cause while also taking in some top-class boxing action in the process.
