J4 side wins scoring feast

Wednesday March 03 2010

WANDERERS' J4 side hosted Swords on Saturday last in what turned out to be a very open encounter.

The home side always appeared to have the edge and indeed were able to put the scores on the board to reflect their dominance. Barry Walsh at full-back found a new turn of pace and accounted for a brace of tries.

Other try scorers included Justin Carroll and scrum-half Mick Bolger. Carroll had a busy day all round and was awarded man of the match for his efforts.

There was a seasonal debut for Noel Richards who was content to pass on his worldly wisdom to the less gifted. Senior players John Fagan and Pat Ryan were also on hand to keep young upstart Richards in his place. Both were pleased with their contribution.

On Saturday next, Wexford host their namesakes, Wanderers of D4, who are currently topping the table. As this is the last league game of the year, both sides are anxious to finish on a high, the visitors particularly so as a win would possibly clinch the title.

However, Wexford are due a big 80minute performance and, based on their previous meeting with this side in Dublin, a win for the home team is well within their capabilities. On Sunday next at 3 p.m., Wexford's firsts host Malahide in a crucial Leinster League campaign. Support for this encounter is most welcome.
