Leinster rugby heroes in Wexford this week
Wednesday August 11 2010
RUGBY ENTHUSIASTS will have an opportunity to meet their Leinster heroes this Thursday afternoon. Heineken Cup champions two seasons back, the new head coach, Joe Schmidt, has his full Leinster senior squad on a weeklong training programme in Park Lane, the home of Wexford Wanderers, in preparation for the 2010'11 season.
Based in White's Hotel in the town, the squad has been training regularly since Monday with a full complement of players including Irish captain Brian O'Driscoll.
For supporters wishing to see their heroes in training, an open training day will be held this Thursday from 1 p.m. for approximately one hour.
Following the hour's public training session, supporters will have an opportunity to 'meet and greet' the squad.
Of special interest to Wexford followers will be Gordon D'Arcy whose eventual distinguished career began on this very ground as a schoolboy.
Another Wexford player now in the squad is Gorey's Rory Sheriff, a second row of huge potential, while Seán O'Brien from nearby Tullow is another player of immense potential.
Captain of the team is Wicklow's Leo Cullen who has created a big impression in the role.
It's the very first time a Leinster Senior squad has trained in Wexford which is a huge boost for the game in the town and for the Wexford Wanderers club.
