Seconds win with six tries

Wednesday February 17 2010

WEXFORD WANDERERS hosted Seapoint on Saturday last for an eagerlyawaited Leinster J4 League re-match with Seapoint.

In the end Wexford were to prove too strong for their visitors, amassing six tries in the process. In particular out wide, Wexford appeared to have the edge and prospered whenever the ball found their wingers.

Flying winger Wayne O'Connor accounted for Wexford's first two tries which were duly converted by full-back Barry Walsh, back in kicking form. These conversions were added to his initial two successful penalties to allow Wexford turn 18-0 up at half-time.

Wexford's other flying winger, Brendan Mulligan, gave them the perfect re-start and crossed from 50 yards. Justin Carroll ensured the bonus point when he crashed over from the base of the ruck ten yards out.

Barry Walsh, not happy with his kicking tally, then added a bit of gloss to the scoreline by slipping through for his own try. Not to be outdone, stalwart Darragh O'Leary rewarded a big performance for the Wexford pack when he also went crashing over following some forwarddominated play.

This was a solid all-round performance for a much-improved Wexford side. The intensity and workrate was maintained high, making it difficult for Seapoint to keep pace.

In defence, Wexford stood firm and were only caught off guard once when an intercept went unchecked and resulted in a runaway try.

On Saturday next Wexford are at home where they are keen to maintain current momentum and form.
