Winning run continues
Wednesday February 24 2010
ENNISCORTHY CONTINUED their winning streak in Leinster League Division 1B with a fine away victory against the second-placed team, Newbridge.
The only downside to the result was that Newbridge got a bonus point at the end when Enniscorthy were down to 13 after two of the players were sin-binned. The Enniscorthy forwards had another good day and they dominated the home pack throughout.
Enniscorthy scored just one try when hooker and captain, John 'Nipper' Howe, broke free from a close-in ruck. Alan Jacob kicked the conversion and he added a penalty just before half-time to see Enniscorthy lead 10-0 at the break.
Alan Jacob added two further penalties in the second-half and they did have chances to score further tries, but Newbridge improved in the second-half and were rewarded when they got the late consolation try to give them that valuable bonus point.
It means that Enniscorthy are now out of a chance of getting promoted, as they are now five points behind Newbridge who are in second place. Enniscorthy were delighted to welcome back Stephen Dalton after a long absence through injury.
Enniscorthy will play Rathdrum in the South East League final on Saturday next at 1 p.m. in Enniscorthy.
