Ladies' soccer league kicking off at the weekend
NEXT SUNDAY sees the womens league kick off with a record number of 35 teams participating in four divisions and it promises to be the most competitive league yet. Champions Ferns United will open the defence of their title at home to North End United with last season's runnersup Benfica beginning the season away to Curracloe United.
Last season's Division 1 champions Bunclody restart life in the top division at home to Adamstown while Killenagh will travel to a young Kilmore side as they also return to the top flight.
Division 1 also promises to be very competitive as ten teams challenge for honours with almost all capable of taking the title. The arrival of Tramore into this division should make it very interesting while Enniscorthy Town also make their debut in this division with a very experienced squad.
Division 2A also promises to be a closely contested division with all eight looking capable of taking points from each other but Shelburne and Forth Celtic will start out as slight favourites. Fastnet Rovers return to adult soccer in this division with the bulk of their talented under-16 team making up the nucleus of their squad. Campile United, Shilelagh United and Moyne Rangers all make their debut in Division 2B where nine teams will compete with Courtown Hibs starting out as slight favourites. RESULTS
Home teams are reminded that they must text in the result of their match as well as scorers from both teams to 087 2697074 immediately after the match. DELEGATE MEETING
The league hold a delegate meeting in The Stanville Lodge Hotel this Wednesday at 8 p.m. Clubs are requested to bring their registration forms on the night and will have received an e mail from the league secretary regarding the format. Clubs who have not paid their affiliation forms are also asked to pay on the night. CONDOLENCES
Everyone involved in Wexford Womens and Schoolgirls soccer would like to offer condolences to league chairman Mick Doyle whose mother, Mary (May) Doyle sadly passed away last week. Our thoughts are with Mick and his family at this sad time CONGRATULATIONS
The league would like to congratulate Rianna Jarrett, Ciara O'Brien and Jessica Gleeson who were all members of the Republic of Ireland Under-17 squad who reached the last eight of the World Cup before bowing out last Friday to Japan. All three players played a part in this match where the Irish girls were unlucky to bow out 2-1 to a very fast and skilful Japanese side. Well done to all three girls who represented the league with pride and we are sure all three will be making appearances in the green jersey in the not too distant future. LEINSTER UNDER-12 BLITZ
Two teams from Wexford competed in the Leinster Under-12 blitz last Saturday in Bunclody but despite some good performances, unfortunately none progressed to the national finals. Shelburne bowed out of a very tough group which included eventual blitz winners Shelbourne (Dublin), Templeogue United and Evergreen, all three of who made it through to the All-Ireland final next weekend. Enniskerry YC were the fourth team to qualify as they progressed from a group which included Tombrack. The young Tombrack side picked up a very well earned point against Shankill FC before bowing out in the play-off to Templeogue United. The league would like to thank Bunclody AFC for the use of their facilities which were in excellent condition on the day UNDER-12 AND 16 TRIALS
