Rovers retain their crown
CARLTON MILLRACE PREMIER DIVISION: Shamrock Rovers retained the Premier Division title last Wednesday evening thanks to victory over Campile United.
The Father Murphy Park club saw off the challenge of the Tom O'neill Park outfit to clinch the top flight table ahead of North End United, whose title dreams were ended when they slipped to defeat against Forth Celtic on the same night.
Goals from Eamon O'brien, Marty Kelly and Chris Kenny earned Rovers the three points that landed them the crown.
United's defeat came on their own turf as struggling Forth Celtic secured the points that saw them avoid automatic relegation. Anthony Hayes, Brian Dunne and Michael O'brien struck the goals as they ran out 1-3 winners over the Holygrove men. Jason Murphy netted for the hosts.
That win lifts Celtic into the play-off spot but they could potentially skip ahead of Gorey Rangers should they pick up a win over Campile United in their last league outing of the season which is a home clash with Campile United, pencilled in for Wednesday, April 25th.
North End United could even be ousted from the runners-up spot come the season's end by Wexford Bohs.
Lee Chin's brace gained his side a 0-2 success over Courtown Hibs last Wednesday and a win in their home tie with Campile United tomorrow evening would see them move level on points with United, albeit with a vastly inferior goal difference.
