Senior women seek spot in semi-finals

THE WEXFORD Senior Women's squad travel to Salthill Devon on Sunday to take on the home side in the quarter-finals of the F.A.I. Women's Senior Cup.

This is the third time the team has reached this stage of the competition, but they will be determined this time out to go at least one step further and reach the semi-finals. The squad has been hit by a couple of injuries and a couple of drop-outs due to work and holidays, but it's still a strong squad that travels to Galway for this important tie.

The home side enjoyed a comprehensive victory over a poor Mayo squad in the second round, while Wexford also had little problem overcoming Terenure in the previous round. The game in Drom kicks off at 2 p.m. on Sunday and we wish the women the best of luck in their quest for a semi-final place in the country's top competition.

Meanwhile, the curtain came down on a long domestic season when Moyne Rangers lifted the Under-14 Division 2B title after overcoming Tombrack 1-0on Sunday morning. In a game where Tombrack had to win, the home team controlled the opening stages but, as the Moyne defence held firm, Tombrack tired in the secondhalf and an Aideen Byrne goal gave her side the win they needed to wrap up the title, while Tombrack finished runners-up.
