A Nicky Sinnott hat-trick helped Cushinstown book their place in the second round of the LFA Junior Shield as they swept aside the challenge of Virginia F.C. 4-0 on Sunday.

Robbie Corcoran got the other goal for the Wexford representatives as they safely put their name in the hat for round two.

Ballymurn also booked their place in the next round as they outclassed Hartstown/Huntstown 5-1, with Eoghan Kehoe netting a double and Luke Lacey, Dylan Ring and Paul Dempsey adding a goal apiece.

Elsewhere, Carne F.C. saw off Woodfarm F.C. 7-6 on penalties after a scoreless stalemate, while Killenagh crushed Malahide United 5-2.

Rosbercon didn't have the scent of victory in the nostrils though as they were beaten 3-1 by Chanel S.S.C., while Tombrack suffered a 10-0 defeat against O'Moore F.C. A Danny Dixon penalty was enough for Gorey Celtic to edge past Skryne-Tara (see focus match).
