Supply lines strong as North End triumph
With their first team flying high at a local and national level this term, and their schoolboys section wrapping up success after success, the North End United 'C' team feats have gone by almost under the radar.
Ger Beary's side have been on a phenomenal run of form in the last four years, with consecutive promotions taking them all the way from the bottom reaches of the Wexford Soccer League to a place in Division 3 next season.
Star man for the Hollygrove side was Jay Leniston who netted 34 times in just 18 games, and his brother, Philip, fell just short of that in partnership with him. Goals certainly came easy for the champions with 88 flowing at an average of more than four a game. Just 15 goals went in at the other end.
They started the season well with four wins on the bounce, however, a 3-2 defeat against eventual runners-up New Ross Celtic gave them their first hiccup. United would go on to draw twice with third-place finishers Rosslare Port but the key game came at the end of December.
A loss away to New Ross would probably have spelt the end of North End's title hopes in a very tight battle for the division. However, the Wexford town boys dominated the game and came away with a 2-0 win that eventually propelled them to the title.
As the season wore on, and win followed win - they won ten of the last eleven - Mark Doyle really came to the fore and put in some superb performance for the victors. With the success of the past few seasons there's no reason to believe that this side can't go even further up the ladder.
Joining Celtic in Division 3 next season will be runners-up New Ross Celtic while, at the other end of the table, Gorey Rangers' third team and Boolavogue will drop to Division 4.
