TWO YOUNG County Wexford soccer stars Corey Chambers (14) and Conor Levingston ( 14), who both come from Gorey, can now say they have beaten one of the most famous sides in the world, after a very successful trip to Qatar just before Christmas with the Republic of Ireland U15 team.
There were two games played there, with the first one being the big one as the Irish squad lined up against their under-15 counterparts from Juventus. The Italian side had been unbeaten in their previous 13 games, and were always going to be a tough challenge.
Goalkeeper Corey started this match and Conor came on as a sub in the second half. This turned out to be an excellent match, with Ireland coming out on top with a fantastic 3- 0 win.
The second match was against the national under-15 development squad of hosts Qatar, and this time Conor started the match, with Corey coming on as a sub in the second half. Unfortunately, Ireland were down 3- 0 by the time Corey came on. The comeback started with Conor scoring his first goal for Ireland. Another two goals followed to finish the game at 3-3.
'All in all, this was a great debut for the two lads,' said Corey's dad Noel. 'Corey kept a clean sheet in both matches and Conor scored for his country. We couldn't have asked for a better result from a goalkeeper and a striker.'
