Wexford Youths returned to the top of the SSE Airtricity League Division 1 table with victory over Cobh Ramblers in St Colman's Park on Saturday evening.

Shane Keegan's side slipped into second place following Finn Harps victory on Friday night but goals from new signing Paul Cahillane, Danny Furlong and Conor Whittle ensure their absence from top-spot would be short-lived.

Cobh were the better team in the first half and would have considered themselves unfortunate not to have gone in ahead at the interval. Even after the restart the brought the best out of Youths 'stopper Graham Doyle as they continued to press.

However, once Cahillane raced onto Craig McCabe's through-ball and opened the scoring it was all Youths. Furlong made it 2-0 after Gary Delaney's header came down off the bar with twelve minutes remaining.

Conor Whittle made the most of a poor clearance from Stephen Hickey and fired from halfway, over the stranded goalkeeper to the net to wrap up victory. Next up for Youths is a trip to Athlone on July 24th.
