Paul Murphy headed his first Wexford Youths goal twelve minutes into the second half to give his side victory in their final pre-season friendly in St Colman's Park on Saturday evening.

The former North End United forward rose highest to head home Gary Delaney's flick-on from Craig McCabe's long throw to finally get the ball past Ramblers goalkeeper Paul Hunt.

Youths hit the woodwork five times over the course of the game, including four times in the first half alone, as they created plenty of chances in their last game before the season kicks off with a home clash against Longford on Friday evening.

Furlong was first to trickle one onto the post before Murphy hit the woodwork three times, the final one of those coming when Hunt somehow pushed a goalbound header up and onto the crossbar.

After Murphy found the net in the second half, Cobh went close when Andy O'Connell volleyed wide but Youths controlled the latter stage and were cursing their luck again late-on when Gary Delaney thumped the crossbar.
