A Wexford architectural firm has been shortlisted in two separate categories in the national Building and Architect of the Year Awards.

O'Driscoll and Lynn Architects (ODLA) based at Knockenhoy Business Park in Sinnottstown Lane, have been nominated in the Building of the Year - Commercial category for designing the Waters Technologies building in the IDA Industrial Park in Drinagh and in the House Extension Refurbishment section for a cottage in The Dirr.

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in the Mansion House in Dublin on October 3.

Waters Technologies engaged O'Driscoll Lynn Architects (run by Cormac Lynn and Brian O'Driscoll) to prepare a site master plan and expand their Wexford plant over three phases, to include 6,500 square metres of production, warehouse and administration space.

ODLA's design focused on the introduction of natural light to the workplaces and the provision of spaces that are flexible and expandable to facilitate ongoing growth at the plant.

The sleek stone clad facade and forms of the building reflect the advanced technology solutions that are the hallmark of Water Technologies.

The extension of a late 19th century cottage in The Dirr retained the traditional form while maximising daylight and views. An old-meets-new approach is emphasised by a striking curved roof with chosen materials that pay respect to the cottage's agricultural heritage.
