Local dog groomers prove they are a cut above at national championships

A number of Wexford dog groomers were feted recently at the 19th annual Irish dog grooming championships in Dublin recently.

The awards which were organised by the Irish professional dog groomer's association saw dog groomers from all around the country take part,

They competed in the different techniques and styles that are used in the daily work in a grooming salon. The judges came from US, UK and Ireland to ensure that the contestants are judged towards an international level.

It was also an educational event with seminars and demonstrations on different subjects that relate to the grooming industry and it wasa great opportunity for groomers to meet and socialise while learning new things.

The Wexford dog groomers had great success at the awards with many of them taking home awards on the day.

Kilmore Quay groomer Mia Overnas at Dreamdogz had a successful weekend competing in the champion division and won both the Hand scissoring and the Clipped class with her own dogs Darcy the poodle and Karamell the foxterrier. She came 2nd in the Hand stripping class with one of her client's dogs Atticus who is a sealyhamterrier.

Wexford town groomer James Bergin at Top Dog Grooming by James competed in the Open division and came 2nd in the Hand stripping class. Enniscorthy groomer Audrey Stamp at Waggly Tails grooming and boarding competed in the champion division and came 2nd in the Clipped class.

Wexford town groomer Karen Whitney at Paws for Perfection competed in the creative class and was a awarded a merit for her work.
