Richard's 'feel good' vibes led to best idea win
Clongeen man Richard Murphy's route to winning the best new idea category in Wexford's young entrepreneur awards was not a straightforward one.
It involved changing career, going back to education and even changing country. In November 2013, half way through studying his chartership in Quantity Surveying while living in Melbourne he could not see himself staying in a career which didn't really suit him.
In June 2014 after receiving his Australian citizenship he returned home for a learning gap year and to explore different things to find himself. He applied for the Irish Best Young Entrepreneur competition and was shortlisted for the boot camp stage.
In November 2014 he moved up to Dublin, starting a diploma in Diet & Nutrition. He felt there were so many personal trainers who focused on losing weight and people's physical attributes, and not the psychological aspects of a person. He developed a nutrition and positive psychology course and offered to volunteer in one of the leading mental health hospitals in Europe at St Patrick's University Hospital. In February of 2015 he brought an equally ambitious colleague onboard, Nicole Paulie, who is a counselling psychologist. Richard's work paid off and he was named Wexford's young entrepreneur.
