The Wilds receives national recognition
The Wilds restaurant in Enniscorthy has been given the Just Ask restaurant of the month award for March.
The prestigious accolade was bestowed on the eaterie after it was adjudicated on by renowned food writer, Georgina Campbell and Bord Bia.
The Just Ask Restaurant of the Month initiative rewards cafes and restaurants across Ireland that exhibit best practices when it comes to showing the sources of food on their menus.
The restaurant is located in a landmark building at the top of Weafer Street, in Enniscorthy, and is operated by Simon and Paula Nelson.
Since it opened in 2015 it has gained a steady reputation for the quality of its food.
The business is also an official supporter of the Wexford Food Family which highlights and supports local produce.
It's emphasis on locally sourced products was emphasised by the Nelsons in the wake of their award: 'All of our meat is of Irish origin. Stafford's Butchers in Enniscorthy and Macamore Buffalo Farm supply us with our fresh meat and O'Neill's Bacon in Enniscorthy supply us with their whole ham, dry-cured rashers, sausages and black and white pudding.'
The restaurant is also supplied by other Co Wexford businesses like Millstream Fishmongers and Duncannon Smokehouse.
Vegetables are sourced from The Veg Patch in Ferns and the organic Gorse Farm in Bunclody while the cafe's eggs come from Bunclody with organic milk supplied by the Village Diary in Co Carlow.
