Training and upskilling were very much the order of the day at The Riverside Park Hotel in Enniscorthy recently as it hosted the first ever County Wexford Skills & Training Expo.

A collaboration between County Wexford Chambers, the Regional Skills Forum and Wexford Local Community Development Committee (LCDC) the event saw people travel from right across the county to see some of the opportunities that are available to employers and employees when it comes to upskilling and offered information on the kind of funding that is available out there for accredited training programmes.

All types of employment were covered on the day with a dedicated forum for the Engineering and Manufacturing sector where training providers outlined the kind of programmes that they have available. Among the exhibitors were IT Carlow and Waterford IT who showcased their Springboard+ courses. The Wexford and Waterford Education Training Board (WWETB) also had information on adult learning and apprenticeships while Wexford Chamber Skillnet and the Local Enterprise Office Wexford were also there to highlight the range of shorter courses that they offer throughout the year.

While the expo was also open to individuals looking to undertake a course themselves, it's primary aim was to showcase opportunities for employers to upskill their employees and it was said to have been a great success to this end with several Wexford companies represented.
