Five stores in County Wexford were honoured at this year's XL retailing standards awards.

They were acknowledged for having achieved outstanding excellence in retail and one of the businesses, Boland's XL, in Ballaghkeen, was awarded a gold retailing standard award.

The ceremony, which took place in Citywest Hotel, was attended by retailers from all over the country.

The awards are organised by BWG Foods which owns and operates the XL brand.

Two other Wexford businesses received silver retail awards: Doyle's XL, in Wexford town, and Geelan's XL, Cleariestown.

XL Gorey and the XL Trading Post were awarded bronze recognition at the ceremony.

Speaking at the awards, Paul Bealin, who is XL head of sales, acknowledged the winners for their ongoing determination and commitment.

The awards are given to stores that have passed year-long inspection including visits from mystery shoppers and they recognise the stores' ongoing commitment to customer care.

The Wexford stores were among 135 XL retailers from around the country honoured on the night.
