Wexford-based Sasha wins holistic Microbusiness award for lymph treatment
Wellbeing Techniques, a lymph specialist clinic based in Wexford, recently won a Micro Business Award.
The Micro Business Awards were created in 2016 to recognise outstanding micro businesses across the country.
The 2019 Micro Business Awards took place in the Limerick Strand Hotel in April. Wellbeing Techniques took first place in the health and holistic category. The company was established in 2015 by Sasha Roche Kelly. Sasha worked as an oncology nurse in Wexford General Hospital for many years and it was through this work she saw first hand the lack of resources and availability of treatment for cancer patients who develop lymphoedema during their cancer journey. From this, her interest in the area of caring for lymphoedema patients grew and so she trained as a Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) Therapist in 2014 and was the founder member of Wellbeing Techniques.
Lymphoedema develops due to the lymphatic system being damaged or altered and presents as swelling in the affected area, generally an arm or a leg with associated feeling of heaviness, tightness or discomfort. Sasha explains Lymphoedema can either be primary or secondary. Primary occurs due to obstruction, malformation or underdevelopment of the lymphatic system. Secondary lymphoedema occurs due to damage of the lymphatic system from surgery, cancer treatment, trauma or infection. Lymphoedema patients suffer both physical and psychological effects from the condition so early diagnosis and intervention is vital for this cohort of clients. Anybody can have MLD treatments.
