Gentleman Jim Day from Killinick lived his life to the full
Jim (James) Day of Mooretown, Killinick, sadly passed away at Wexford General Hospital on November 8 following a short illness.
Born in 1928 to a local farming family, Jim spent his whole life working in agriculture.
In 1955 he married the love of his life Florrie (Florence) McDonnell with the couple having celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary surrounded by family members, in November 2015.
After they got married, Jim and Florrie set up home together in Mooretown and it was here that Jim continued his lifelong career as a farmer.
The couple continued to run the farm while rearing their children, Dermot, Paddy, Jimmy, Florence, Mary, Phyllis, Jackie, Robert, Bernie, Maurice and Ann.
Jim's love of agriculture and nature also led to a love of gardening.
He spent many happy hours working on his own garden as well as giving invaluable tips to friends and family.
Jim was devoted to Florrie and as well as working hard at home, they spent many happy hours enjoying life and each other's company. In more recent years they visited their son Jimmy in Virginia, USA many times and loved attending the horse races both Stateside and at home.
During the Summer, they would enjoy the seaside at Kilmore Quay and could often be found doing the shopping together in Wexford Town on Fridays.
Jim had a tremendous faith which never wavered and it was this faith that helped him through the tough times. Jim was sadly predeceased by his son Robert in 1989 following a tragic accident.
Jim had an insatiable love of life and a unique sense of 'divilment' which he loved to inflict upon his unsuspecting children and grandchildren.
He was a true gentleman with a tremendous spirit and will be sadly missed by his wife Florrie, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family & friends.
