Agnes Whelan retirement party IN NEWBAY HOUSE
THE STAFF at The Mercy National School, John's Road, paid tribute to one of their recently retired members at a function in Newbay House.
Agnes Whelan, (front, fifth from left) an Adamstown resident, was a mainstay at the Wexford town school for 31 years. In fact it was her first school after leaving teaching college in 1979.
Principal Pat Gately and fellow members of staff paid tribute to Agnes at the function last Friday night.
Mr Gately said that the parents, the pupils and her fellow teachers held Agnes in very high regard and she will be sorely missed from the school.
'The pupils were mad about her and she was extremely hardworking and diligent,' said Mr Gately.
Agnes taught many classes down through the years and spent her last three years at The Mercy working in Learning Support.
'While we had a great night on Friday and gave her a good send off, it was also a sad night and she will be a huge loss to the school,' said Mr Gately, who, on behalf of his colleagues, wished Agnes a long and happy retirement.
