Curracloe native Breda Cullen has been knitting up a storm for Innocent Big Knit for four years and this Christmas, she managed to beat her own record.

The 82-year-old knitted 1000 miniature hats which will be sold along with Innocent smoothies to raise funds for Age Action Ireland. Despite having arthritus and being blind in one eye, the big knit is no sweat to the eager knitter.

'As soon as she gives in her hat collection each year, she starts on the next one,' said Lorna Cullen, Breda's daughter. 'She just gets straight back into it.'

Breda, who has been knitting since she was a young girl, has used her talent for several other good causes. She has also knitted cardigans and hats for newborn babies in local hospitals, as well as clothing for children in Africa.

According to Lorna, her mother loves to knit and she really enjoys being able to help others.

Breda has become somewhat of an internet sensation since her photo was shared on the Age Action Facebook page. The colourful image of the Curracloe lady with her hats has received over 1200 likes and 225 shares.

The Innocent Big Knit sees Irish people knitting little woolly hats which are put onto Innocent smoothies each winter. For each one sold, Innocent makes a donation of 30 cent to Age Action.
