More than 1,200 runners and walkers took part in the annual Pettitt's SuperValu Wexford Half Marathon and 10K on Sunday.

Tom Hogan made it two in a row in the half marathon to come home in first place but he was pushed all the way by fellow SBR club mate Myles Gibbons.

A mere seven seconds was the difference between the two men on the day. Hogan came in at 1:13:10. They were followed in third by visitor Pedro Calvo Gonzalez from Seville running club in Spain. Pedro was one of many overseas visitors.

The women's half was won by Michelle McGee Dundrum South Dublin AC in a time of 1:19:53. Michelle has represented Ireland in mountain running and is accomplished cross country runner. In second was Cathy McCourt from North Belfast Harriers and third was Kilmore's Jackie Carty. Jackie was aiming for four wins in a row and no doubt she'll be back to reclaim the title next year.

In the men's 10km Niall Sheil from St Killians AC bided his time before he made a decisive move to catch Gavin Keogh BNY Mellon in a close battle with only 12 seconds between them. This was the same first and second result as last year. Sheils winning time was 34:06. Third placed man was Rossa Hurley and in fourth in the rip young age of 55 was Ger Maloney in 36:42. In the ladies Ciara Wilson form the hosting club DMP AC won in a time of 38:37 followed by Anne Gilshinan Menapians AC 40:54 and Jean Wallace 41:49 from 3D Triathlon club Dublin.

The race was attended by 1,200 runners walkers and joggers. The last competitor came in at 2hours 52mins and got a rousing cheer. Enda O'Doherty successfully completed the half marathon with a washing machine on his back in a time of 3hours 40mins.
