When Stephen McCaffery and Jim Wall decided to take part in a triathlon, the pair decided that one simply wasn't enough.

In an effort to go that extra mile, they will push themselves to the limit by completing ten triathlons in a row in Rosslare Strand on July 23. Both of them will complete 7.5 km of sea swimming, 200 km of cycling and 50 km of running all in the name of two worthy causes.

'We said if we were going to do it we might as well do it for charity,' said Stephen, who hails from Rosslare Strand. 'We picked The Hope Centre in Enniscorthy and a charity trying to raise funds for a 17-year-old girl from Carlow who has a rare form of an already rare form of cancer. All her treatment has to be done in Texas and Boston if she has any chance of surviving.'

The challenge, which the pair have christened the 'Triforten', came about over coffee and the momentum has been building ever since. Stephen and Jim have been training daily for the upcoming event by setting their alarm clocks for 5 a.m. and braving the cool waters off the Wexford coast. Clonard resident Jim will get some additional practice in when he takes part in the Ironman distance triathlon in Galway only weeks before.

The dynamic duo are currently seeking people of all levels of fitness to take part in some or all of the event. Kicking off at 4 a.m., it will include ten 750 metre sea swims, ten 20 km bike rides and ten 5 km runs. The choice of thirty sections will allow participants to take part in whatever section suits them. Sponsorship packs are available on the day. Those who wish to take part can email
