Fr Gorman bids a fond farewell to Taghmon
It was the end of an era in the parish of Taghmon as Fr Sean Gorman took to the altar to celebrate his final mass as parish priest there, before retiring to Kilmore.
There was a great attendance on the night and Fr Gorman was joined by Fr Paddy Stafford and Fr Paddy McGuire in celebrating mass at St Fintan's Church and the congregation afterwards moved across for a special reception at Taghmon National School.
Fr Gorman started off in the house of missions before moving on to serve in Gusserane. He then took up a role in Barntown Parish before making the short move out the road to Taghmon where he has served happily for the past thirteen years.
During that time, he's really been taken into the heart of the local community who are now sorry to see him go.
'We had a lovely evening,' said Patricia Gilhooly of the Parish Committee.
'There was a great attendance to wish Fr Gorman all the best. He seemed to really enjoy himself and he had his nephews and nieces there on the night, as well as his cousins from Kilmore.'
Presentations, including a framed photo of the imposing structure of St Fintan's Church, were made to Fr Gorman from the Parish Committee, Taghmon Action Group (TAG) and the Historical Society of which he is an active member.
The community wished Fr Gorman all the very best in his retirement and he is set to be replaced by Fr Robert McGuire who will move to Taghmon and cover the parish there, as well as Carroreigh and Trinity.
