Hynes launches Greenacres show
THE 10TH Greenacres Opera Festival Exhibition was officially launched on Saturday by Gary Hynes, founder of the Druid theatre in Galway and sister to the late Jerome Hynes. Local pianist Fergal O'Brien's tickling of the ivory keys created a relaxing ambience as crowds gathered to enjoy the spectacular artwork on show.
In a touching tribute, owner of Greenacres, James O'Connor described the late Jerome Hynes' contribution to the community as ' unique and absolutely exceptional'. Following on from this Gary Hynes officially launched the exhibition with an insightful speech on the importance of culture and the Arts within the community, especially during difficult economic times.
The variety group exhibition features 400 pieces by 100 different artists. Indeed it plays host to a line up of local talent including Elisabeth O'Brien, Elena Galotta, and Caroline Ward. Similarly the exhibition has attracted artists from further afield, such as the unique line drawings of Gerda Telijeur of Denmark.
Valerie and Pierce McAwliffe from Dunbrody, visit the exhibition every year and described it as 'a magnificent exhibition with something for everybody'.
