IRISH Country Meats has won Wexford Chamber's Business of the Year award.

Almost 500 people, the biggest attendance for the event so far, attended the awards night at White's Hotel on Friday night for a celebration of all things good in Wexford business.

'We are so delighted to see this event grow year on year and to have support from members and non-members alike is very rewarding,' said chamber CEO Madeleine Quirke.

'It is very uplifting to see businesses taking the time to participate in our business awards and their willingness to allow themselves to be carefully scrutinised for the sake of improvement and recognition is a credit to each and every one of them,' she said.

Now in its fifth year, the Wexford Business Awards has established itself as the most important and respected business awards in the county and businesses both large and small participated.

'Against the extremely challenging trading conditions that businesses endure, it is vitally important that the achievements and talent needed to survive are celebrated,' said Madeleine.

The overall winner, Irish Country Meats, from Camolin, is the largest sheep meat processor in Ireland and is the specialist sheep meat processing division of Slaney Foods, a subsidiary of the Linden Food Group.
