Low stomach acid can cause peeling nails

How are your nails?
How are your nails?

How are your nails? Do you, like me, have nails that you would prefer to keep hidden? I have never had good nails but recently they started to peel, and as a result they looked unsightly, I was even more embarrassed by them than ever. I had to cut them back shorter than normal, and my nails are never long, but I had no choice because the nails were so weak, they broke easily, and they were peeling.

I was confused about this, about what could be going on, because nothing really had changed. My diet was pretty much the same as always, so I didn't think it was that. I thought maybe I wasn't taking enough Omega oils but taking extra didn't improve my nails. Then I blamed the nail varnish remover that I was using, I thought that maybe that was too strong, a bit harsh. So I got Benecos nail varnish remover, it's much more natural. But even this change didn't stop the peeling nails.

Then one day I was talking to my sister, she's a Nutritional Therapist, I told her about my nails, and she said, "Clair it's low stomach acid, you know that yourself," and I had kind of suspected that, but I didn't have any bloating, heart burn, or any other digestive problems, all of which are associated with low stomach acid, so I kept dismissing that probability. But when I thought about it, it made perfect sense.

I am always telling you how stress can deplete your digestive enzymes, and affect how you digest food. This in turn can affect your health in many different ways. And I had been extremely busy for the past several months, extremely busy! Both mentally and physically, and stress can affect the production of stomach acid. Low stomach acid will lead to inadequate digestion or absorption of nutrients from food that you eat.

Low stomach acid is not the only reason you could have peeling nails. Low iron or thyroid function, over washing of the hands could also be the cause.

I took Biocare Betaine HCI and Pepsin to improve stomach acid. I took one with each meal and it didn't take long for my nails to improve, they look much better. I am delighted; this might work for you too? Worth a try.
