ARD AOIBHINN honoured one of its longest serving members of staff last week after she retired following almost three decades of services.
Mary Finnegan, of Pinewood, was Clinical Nurse Manager at Ard Aoibhinn prior to her retirement just before Christmas.
Very popular among both her colleagues, the users of the centre and their families, a large crowd turned out at the centre on Belvedere Road last Thursday for Mary's official leaving do.
Mary started out in St Clare's centre on Clifford Street in Wexford in the early 1980s, which cared for children with intellectual disabilities.
Then in 1995 she made the move to the newly established Ard Aoibhinn when St Clare's merged with St Michael's Day Care Centre at the premises on Belvedere Road.
Though Mary enjoyed a party with her colleagues prior to Christmas, her many years of excellent and dedicated service were officially recognised by the centre's board of management last Thursday.
Many people came out to the centre to pay tribute to Mary including past members of staff, former users of the service and their families, as well as all those currently involved with Ard Aoibhinn.
Chairperson of the management committee, Maureen Rossiter paid a glowing tribute to Mary for her immense contribution to the centre over three decades.
The service users also staged a pantomime (delayed from Christmas due to the snow) for the many visitors and their performance was dedicated to Mary, who, like everyone else in attendance, thoroughly enjoyed it.
Mary, who is married to Pat, a retired teacher, was wished a very happy and healthy retirement.
After enjoying a break to Canaries, she will not have much time to relax as she will be busy helping her daughter Majella prepare for her wedding in April!
