A member of Wexford ICA finished up in second place overall at this year's national culinary competition final in An Grianan.

Mella Winters, from Taghmon guild, took home the silver place award for her Oxford lunch.

She won her way to the final at the recent spring federation meeting hosted by Wexford ICA - which saw a number of members from across the county recognised for their culinary expertise.

Competition promoter, Catherine Dunleavy adjudicated on two different competitions at that meeting and she faced a tough challenge in deciding on overall winner especially in view of the fact there were 15 entries in each of the events.

The competition for six chocolate chip cookies was won by Mary Thompson, Castlebridge, with Dympna Kelly, Camross, coming in second place and Eithne Lee, from Inch, in third position.

While Ms Winters was announced as the federation winner for Wexford she was followed closely by Peggy Hendrick, Ballyanne, who came second, and Suzanne Winters, from the Taghmon branch in third place.

All of the competitors were praised for the quality of their cooking.
