New edition of The Rising being launched

Catriona Crowe will launch a new edition of Bairbre Toibin's novel 'The Rising' at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 9 in Enniscorthy Library.

Colm Tóibín, brother of the author, said 'The Rising' is both a story of revolutionary fervour and a love story. It is a drama about political idealism and then the toll that such idealism takes. An account of a single family in a time of change, it has broader implications, and stands as a metaphor for how modern Ireland came into being.'

Told in prose of extraordinary clarity, 'The Rising' is a profoundly moving love story that delves deep into the mindset of Irish Republicanism, along with the complex social relationships of town and country during that era. An engrossing account of family, memory, history and belonging.

Bairbre Tóibín was born in Enniscorthy. She studied Irish and History at University College Dublin, and worked as a teacher. She is currently writing a novel set during the War of Independence.

Admission is free and all are welcome
