Open air music event of the year
OUR LADY'S Island parish is renowned for its outstanding natural beauty and historical significance. The area attracts visitors from all over Ireland and abroad who come to enjoy the peaceful serenity of the relaxing lakeside, a pathway travelled by pilgrims for generations.
Following last year's very successful inaugural Courtyard Concert, Our Lady's Island Parish are pleased to announce that this year's evening concert will be held on Friday the 3rd August. The open air musical event will feature The Priests from Northern Ireland proudly supported by Wexford Soprano Alison Doyle. Fr. Eugene O'Hagen, Fr. Martin O'Hagen and Fr. David Delargy have become a worldwide sensation, rising to global stardom appearing alongside such artists as Tom Jones and The Killers. Their debut albums have topped the charts in over 40 countries selling more than 2 million copies. On the night The Priests will perform an enchanting and sublime mix of musical numbers which will embrace a range of classical, liturgical and folk genres.
The location for the concert is the Castle Courtyard situated behind the Norman Castle adjacent to Our Lady's Island Lake. The Castle will form a fantastic backdrop for the stage and the surrounding mature woodland will be sympathetically back lit to add to the sense of ambience.
Already well known for the warmth of its hospitality during Our Lady's Island pilgrimage season, the local community has rallied around in support of this worthwhile fundraising event. Over 50 locals have been enlisted as volunteers to steward the event and provide services from catering, traffic management, car parking, security, to ushering. Local businesses have continued their sponsorship of the event. Many of the local restaurants and hotels have arranged special concert menus for those wishing to enjoy a pre concert dinner.
Gates will open at 7.00pm with the performance starting at 8.30pm. Free Car Parking will be provided adjacent to the venue and refreshments from our fully licensed bar will be available before the concert and during the interval.
A bus service will be provided from Wexford town to the concert by Joe O Brien. Pick up points will be Tesco's at 7pm and Clonard Church at 7.10pm. Cost will be €5.00 return and advance booking is essential. Contact (053) 9124809 for bus details.
