The call has gone out for new choir members as Wexford Festival Singers prepares to join with Wexford Sinfonia Orchestra to present a Carols for Christmas concert in aid of the Wexford branch of St Vincent de Paul in Rowe Street Church, Wexford on Sunday, December 9 at 3.30pm.

Wexford Festival Singers will also be joined by members of Enniscorthy Choral Society, Castlebridge Gospel Choir and County Wexford School of Music Singers under the baton of conductor Dr. Kevin O'Carroll for what promises to be a feast of song for the festive season.

The choir has issued an invite to all those interested in taking part in this community concert to join them for rehearsals every Wednesday night in November and early December at 7.30pm in the Friary Hall in School Street,Wexford.

The concert is the choir'a annual way of giving back to the local community which supports them during the year and follows the success of their Jubilate Deo concert during Wexford Festival Opera.

It's also an opportunity for potential new members to experience the choir. 'We were so thrilled with the response to our festival concert that we thought our annual fundraising Christmas concert could be the ideal time for any budding singers to come along and see what they think, while at the same time helping us to raise money for the Wexford branch of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, a cause very close to our hearts', said chairperson Anna Skrine.

Wexford Festival Singers is a mixed voice choir established in 1975, whose repertoire ranges from major classical to contemporary works. Members come from Wexford, Waterford, Carlow, Kilkenny, Wicklow and further afield, and include all ages, backgrounds, occupations and interests.

Their common bond is a love of music and a desire to share it with the community. The choir performs a number of concerts each year, the highlight of which is the well known annual Wexford Festival Choral Concert.

Wexford Sinfonia was formed in 1993 to promote classical music. Under the baton of conductor Fergus Sheil, the musicians include professional, semi-professional and amateur players, drawn from all over the south-east. Dr. O'Carroll is a choral conducting teacher and workshop leader. He is a conducting tutor at NUI Maynooth and University of Limerick and is an examiner for the Royal Irish Academy of Music.

Tickets for the concert are available from any Wexford Festival Singers member. For further details, go to www.wexfordfestivalsingers.com or telephone 087 7110073.
