The top earning women in music today

When U.S. magazine Forbes revealed their annual 'Top earning women in music' list last week, there was some surprise that Katy Perry, who hasn't released an album since 2013, had held off the challenge of Taylor Swift to rank number one. Perry claimed the top spot on the back of a huge world tour, grossing $2 million but now winding down, a steady stream of hit singles, and some major endorsements. It's expected that Swift will topple her rival next year, as her ongoing '1989' tour is grossing over $4 million per city. Fleetwood Mac's inclusion at No. 3 in this list is odd as the band has three male members alongside Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie. The list measures pretax income from June 1, 2014, to June 1, 2015, before subtracting management fees.

Katy Perry ($135 million)

Taylor Swift ($80 million)

Fleetwood Mac ($59.5 million)

Lady Gaga ($59 million)

Beyonce ($54.5 million)

Britney Spears ($31 million)

Jennifer Lopez ($28.5 million)

Miranda Lambert ($28.5 million)

Mariah Carey ($27 million)

Rihanna ($26 million)
