40 years ago, tartan-clad teen idols Bay City Rollers sold a million and spent six weeks at the top of the UK charts with 'Bye Bye Baby', their version of a song originally a U.S. hit for The Four Seasons in 1965. The Rollers enjoyed worldwide stardom and were labelled 'the new Beatles' in some music magazines of the seventies, but history does not concur. Some of their biggest hits ('Shang-A-Lang', 'Saturday Night') were co-written by Dirty Old Town/Ireland's Call creator Phil Coulter.
