'A Groovy Kind Of Love' was written 23 years before Phil Collins took it to the top of the charts in the UK, US, Ireland and many other countries. 21-year-old Carole Bayer Sager and Toni Wine, just 17, penned the classic tune in 20 minutes in 1965, apparently keen to write a song with new slang word 'groovy' in the title. It was first recorded and released by short-lived duo Diane and Annita (Diane Hall and Annita Ray) of whom surprisingly little is known. Since then, there have been many covers, including versions by Petula Clark in 1966, Sonny and Cher in 1967, Gene Pitney in 1968 and Neil Diamond in 1993. It was Phil Collins' only single to top both the UK and US charts and it earned him a Grammy nomination in 1988.
