Wedding days

Laura Roche and Gerard Nolan

A RECENT wedding at St Michael's Church in Gorey had a special link to the past, as Gerard Nolan and Laura Roche were married on the

exact same date that Ger's parents were wed in the church 31 years previously. On April 21, 1981, Ger Snr and Sandra Nolan were married by Fr Walter Forde, and on April 21 last, Ger Jnr and Laura were married at

the same church by Fr Willie Howell. Ger is originally from Cluanin, having been born in Gorey in 1982,

and moved to Dublin when he was four years old. All his father's family still live in Gorey, and his grandmother Catherine is well known locally, and was delighted to share in the celebrations on the day. Indeed, Catherine was also

married in St Michael's Church in February 1949, to Luke Nolan, who has since passed away. Ger and Laura, a Ballyfermot native, live in Newcastle, Co Dublin. Among those enjoying the day were Ger's best man Brendan Nolan, his groomsmen John Brooks and Sam Ryan, bridesmaids Elaine Roche, Anita Palmer and Colleen Nolan, Laura's parents James and Anne Roche, and Ger's father Ger. His mother Sandra is deceased, but was very much in everyone's thoughts on the day. A reception was held for 135 guests in the Amber Springs Hotel,

Gorey, and the couple honeymooned in Malta. They thanked everyone for their good wishes on the day, with special thanks going to Paul and Eleanor Leonard for organising the flowers, cars and video. (Below:GerSnrandSandraNolanwithFrWalterFordegettingmarried
