MASS ROCK

Thanks to all those who attended Mass at Carrigbyrne on Monday 11th June. In the week of the Eucharistic Congress what venue could speak so eloquently as this Holy ground. Hallowed by the feet of you ancestors who gathered on Tom's rugged ground. Our fellow Gaelic speaking Catholics from Scotland forced across the sea by an alien and hostile government brought many beautiful traditions with them, principally their faith and their native tongue to Nova Scotia.

Many years ago a visitor there became aware of widespread whispering during Mass. On enquiring he discovered that according to an old tradition people uttered the words "Cead mile Failte Romhat a Tosa" after the consecration. St John Vianney said on one occasion "Let them give up their Mass and they will become like animals again".
