ADAMSTOWN

CARDS

The weekly "30" Card Game continues in the Community Centre this Friday 27th July at 9.00 pm. There is €220 in prize money on offer each week. Thanks to the ladies for the teas last week. Catering on the night will be: Breda Kelly, Valerie Kelly and Geraldine Thorpe. Catering for the following Friday 3rdAugust will be: Dympna Rochford, Mary Lawlor and Marie Dunphy. Proceeds will be going to the Parish Funds.

ADAMSTOWN LOTTO

Winning numbers were 1, 2, 12 & 13. There was no jackpot winner and no match three winners. The next draw is worth €10,900. and the seller of the winning ticket will receive €1,900. The next draw will take place in the Boro Inn Pub at 10.30 pm, on Monday 30th July. All proceeds go to Adamstown FC, Adamstown GAA and The Parish Committee.

SUCCESSFUL CABARET

A very enjoyable Cabaret was held in Cullen's Lounge last Saturday night. The event was organised by the Cemetery Committee with the music supplied by Ger, Ann, Liz and Francis. The prize winners were Johnny Swanton, Breda Furlong, Leo Booth, Lar Doyle, Joe Kidd, Paddy Doyle, Ellen and Paddy Connors, Adrian Morrissey, Noreen Whelan, Martin Bradley, Mary Furlong, John Power and Louise Stafford.

Great credit is due to the Committee for their great ticket sales and for donating the door prizes. Fr Robert PP thanked the members of the Cemetery Committee for their maintenance and improvements, and to John Power for the laying of the new cement path, which is greatly appreciated by the many visitors to the Cemetery. The event realised the very nice figure of €1,319.00. Thanks to everyone for your support.

ADAMSTOWN SHOW

Weather permitting, the 65th Annual Agricultural, Horticultural, Trade and Vintage show will be held this Friday 27th July at 10am.

ICA GUILD

On Monday last the ICA ladies and friends travelled to Cobh for their Annual Outing. They visited the Cobh Heritage Centre and "The Titanic Experience". After spending sometime in the glorious sunshine the ladies travelled to Mahon Point Centre. The day was rounded off with a beautiful meal in Tracy's Hotel, Waterford followed by an outstanding performance by "Celtic Storm" where some of our ladies were picked from the audience to go and dance with the performers. A great day was had by all.

Adamstown Show: On Friday next the ICA will have a display of their wares at the local show. Please drop in for a chat and see all the ICA has to offer. A meeting will take place on Thursday evening 26th July will take place on Thursday evening at 8.00 pm to make arrangements for the show.

LADIES SOCCER

Adamstown LFC are currently looking for girls from age 7 to 14 to play soccer this season. If you or any of you friends are interested contact Geraldine on 087 7631449 or Ann Marie on 087 9027622.

ATHLETIC CLUB

Adamstown Athletes strike gold in the All Irelands, Marguerite Furlong and Ryan Carthy Walsh excelled at the weekend in the All Ireland Track & Field held in Tullamore.

In the Girls U13 Shot Putt Marguerite took the gold medal with a throw of 11mtr 69cm, adding another 58cm to her personal best and leaving the competition over 1.5mtr in her wake and only a mere 9cm from setting a new Irish record.

In the Boys U14 High Jump Ryan Carthy Walsh also took home the gold medal with a jump of 1mtr 55 cm, this was also a competition personal best for Ryan. Both athletes showed great ability to put in such performances on the big competition day.

Also competing in the All Ireland's over the weekend were Stephen Gorman in the Boys U18 800m, Stephen finished 8th and also finished his track season on a high with a new personal best of 2mins 03sec.

Not to be outshone, Claire Stephenson finished 5th in the Girls U17 Steeplechase. It was an exceptional weekend for the Adamstown Athletic Club, our athletes have worked for what the wished for and their wishes were granted. Well done everyone, you have done the club and parish proud. Best of luck to Joe Mooney and Patrice O'Gorman who have will be competing in their All Ireland's on 28th July.

EILEEN LEAVEY RIP

Our condolences to the O'Connor family, the Doyle family, Ballvergin and the Larkin family, Adamstown on the recent death in the United States of Mrs Eilleen Leavey. Eileen was a native of Slevoy, Foulksmills and was reared with her grand parents Jimmy and Eliza Larkin in Adamstown.

She was 88 years of age and emigrated to Marshalstown, Arizona sixty years ago. Eileen and her husband Frank Leavey (Co Meath) celebrated their Golden Jubilee in Slevoy two years ago. They reared seven children; Eileen is survived here in Ireland by her sisters Peggy, May, Statia, Dolly and her brother Aidan. She was predeceased by her brothers Paddy, Newtown; Jimmy, Slevoy and her sister Kathleen. Eileen's obsequies took place in Scottsdale, Phoenix, Arizona May she Rest in Peace.

SCHOOLBOYS SOCCER

Due to a low turn out on 18th July a further meeting has been arranged for 9pm on Thursday 26th July at Adamstown Community Centre to establish a committee for the Schoolboys Soccer League.

It is in the interests of all the parents of children playing this year that they would try and attend in order that a committee be elected to organise the teams properly and to begin fundraising. Further Support from parents can be expressed by contacting any of the Schoolboy coaches: Dermot Hynes, Martin Smyth, T.J MacDonald, Mossie Walsh, James O'Neill and Steve Herbert and Schoolgirl coaches Geraldine Thorpe and Anne-Marie Dunphy.
