5k Fun Run/Walk

Please support the 5k Fun Run/Walk fundraiser in aid of Temple Street Hospital on Sunday 25th January at 12 noon. Registration from 11am in Ballymurn Hall. Entry fee: Donation on the day. Refreshments afterwards in Ballymurn Hall, spot prizes on the day.

Vintage News

The AGM of the Over the Water Vintage Club will take place on Friday 23rd January at 8pm in the pump house in Wexford Fowl Reserve Ardcavan. All welcome.


There is a beginners class starting in Ballymurn Hall from Monday 12th January at 10am. This class focus on gentle exercises for flexibility balance and strength. variety show

The Blackwater Hall committee will be hosting a Parish variety show on Friday 13th February and Saturday 14th February in the Blackwater Lodge Hotel. All welcome to participate if interested contact Noel on 087 6887310. All proceeds raised towards the Parish Playground fund.

We extend our condolences to Caroline Duffy-O`Leary, Whitefort, on the death of her Mother, Mrs. Grace Duffy whose funeral took place in Donegal; condolences also to Mai O`Connor and family, Kyle, on the sudden death of her brother-in-law Eugene Robinson, Wexford town, whose funeral takes place today, Tuesday, to Crosstown cemetery.

Our condolences also to Mr. Paddy O`Leary and family, The Deeps, on the death of his Mother, Mrs. Bridget O`Leary, Newlands and late of the Wavecrest Bar, whose funeral took place to Piercestown cemetery following 11 o`clock Mass in Clonard on Wednesday of last week. R.I.P.

Strictly Club Dancing

A coffee morning will be held in Kyle Forge on Saturday, January 24 from 10 a.m. until 12.30 p.m.This is a fundraiser by the local GAA club for Emma McDonald and Bill Eviston who will represent the club in the forthcoming Strictly Club Dancing competition. Your support would be appreciated.

SNA Post

The DES recently approved an increase in SNA allocation for St. Patrick's national school, Crossabeg. The post is advertised on The closing date for applications is January 29 and the post will begin on February 16. For further details, please contact the school on 053-9159035.

Enrolment Forms

If you intend enrolling your child in St Patrick's school, Crossabeg, for September 2015 and are unsure his / her name is on the list, check immediately with Marie in the school office on 91-59035. Enrolment forms will be distributed shortly. The closing date for receipt of completed enrolment form is March 1.

Wedding Bells

Annual General Meeting

The annual general meeting of the Over The Water Vintage Club will take place in the Pump House at Wexford Wildfowl Reserve, Ardcavan, on Friday, January 23 at 8 p.m. All are most welcome.


A total of €305 was taken up recently at Crossabeg church for County Wexford Community Workshop. Grateful thanks to each and everyone who subscribed.

St. Killian's AC

Any athlete wishing to compete in the Leinster Indoor Athletic championships should contact any of the officials - Padraig, Nicky, Anne-Marie, Kathryn, Mick or Alice. The first round will be held in early February in the National Indoor centre in Athlone. A reminder that indoor training continues as usual every Monday and Thursday evening in the community centre from 7-8 p.m. Extra training can be arranged for athletes going to Athlone.

Registration: St. Killians Athletic club athletes and their parents should take note that Monday, January 26 is is Registration night. Athletes cannot compete in any competition unless they are registered Officials of the club will be in attendance in the community centre from 7-8.15 p.m.

Community Games

Entries are now being sought for Community Games Draughts and Chess competitions. Please contact Anne on 086-1980775 if interested in competing for the Area. In the Draughts competitions, there are events for Under 10`s/ Under 12`s/ under 14`s and under 16`s. The age groups in the Chess events are Under 13 and U16. Please contact Anne by Friday of this week if you have a team.


Tea and Chat

Our first senior tea morning will of the new year will take place on Thursday next 23rd January in the old school centre after mass. A short slide show of past parish events will be presented by Aidan Quirke.

Set Dancing

Set Dancing continues on Tuesday nights from 8.00 to 10.00pm. Beginners are always welcome - please contact 087 2546278 for any further information.

Story telling Group

The Story telling group will unveil a Plaque to " Big John " in the Church on Saturday next 24th January after Mass at 7.30pm. John was very much part of the Community of Glenbrien spending many years providing us with music in the church as well as being an avid musician and attended the Story telling group in Glenbrien and further a field.

Please come along and join us in this tribute to John and join us afterwards for some tea and refreshments and a short session in the Old School centre afterwards.

GAA news

It was a great honour for Shelmalier men Joe Kelly and Benny Barron who made their county senior hurling competition debut in the first round of the Walsh Cup played in Gorey on Sunday last. Fellow club man Ciaran O'Shaughnessy captained the Wexford side to their 1-21 to 0-15 victory over a gallent UCD side who came into the game in the second half. Both Joe and Ciaran were on the score sheet with Joe getting his sides only goal. The team play Laois next week in Abbeyleix.

The Shelmalier minor footballers continued their recent fine form with a comprehensive 3-7 to 1-4 victory over Bunclody in the quarter final of the Jim Byrne Cup competition played in Blunclody on Sunday last. The first half was an evenly fought affair with the visitors leading by a single point 0-4 to 0-3 at half time, while two early goals at the start of the second half proved decisive in the Shels victory. The team now progress to the semi-finals which will be played shortly. Watch press for details.

There were no winners of the lotto draw on January 12. The numbers drawn were 4, 5, 15 & 18. There was one match 3 winner, Nadine Roche who won €400. The jackpot stands at €16,000 so get your tickets in time for the next draw.

Shelmalier Reunion

All roads lead to Hotel Curracloe on Saturday, February 7 for the Shelmalier GAA club annual re-union. With the clubs senior hurlers having won the Bob Bowe Cup for the first time in 84 years this promises to be a night to remember for all in the parish.

The function will begin with a cheese and wine reception at 7.30 p.m. and the meal beginning at 8 p.m sharp. Music will be supplied by 'Elemeno' and will be followed by local DJ Nigal Quaid spinning the discs until the early hours.

The club expects that there will be a great demand for tickets, so all wishing to attend are advised to get their tickets as soon as possible. The tickets cost €25 and can be obtained from Colm Flanagan in Castlebridge, Aine Donohoe in Curracloe and Peggy Kelly in Screen.

Annual General Meeting

The Shelmalier Ladies Football Club will hold their annual general meeting on Sunday, January 25 in Hollymount at 4 p.m. All are welcome.

Kung Fu classes

Five Thunder Lau Kuen Kung Fu classes take place in Castlebridge community centre on Mondays at 7 p.m. All are welcome. The cost is €8 for adults and €6 for children. The instructor is Dermot Malone, C.E.O.


The weekly winners of the cards in Hotel Curracloe were Murt Kelly and Austin Hearne. Last weeks winners were Kathleen Murphy and Fr. Denis Kelly. Cards (Partners 45) continue every Thursday night at 9 p.m. All are welcome.

Curracloe school news

Well done to Sinead Redmond who won €244 in the 'Split The Pot' draw. The next draw will be held on Monday, January 26. The cost is €2 per entry.

2015 school calendars remain on sale in the locality as well as in the school. The cost is €5.

Screen school update

Screen national school is currently taking enrolments for September 2015. The form can be collected from the school office during school hours or alternatively downloaded from the The closing date for applications is Monday, February 23.

An Anti-Bullying workshop for parents of children and teenagers in primary and post primary schools will take place in Screen school hall on Tuesday, January 27 at 7.30 p.m sharp. This workshop will be presented by Sharon Hayden, representative of the National Parents' Council. All are welcome.

The school will hold a 50th anniversary Mass on Thursday, February 12 at 11 a.m in Screen church, with refreshments served in the school afterwards. All are welcome. Following this there will be an open day in the school from 12.30-2 p.m, giving parents, grandparents, past pupils and the wider community an opportunity to view the great work the children are doing in the school, as it is today-50 years on.

Camogie news

A reminder to all of the younger members of the Shelmaliers/St. Ibars Camogie club in this quiet time before the games resume that music lessons in tin whistle, flute, guitar, bodhrán, banjo, guitar, singing, button accordion and fiddle are available weekly in Hollymount for €7 per lesson, as well as band practice. All who have not registered yet may do so on Tuesday, January 20. Adult music lessons are also available. Call in for a chat with the organisers at the Shelmalier G.A.A. Complex on Tuesdays from 6 p.m.

Curracloe United AFC had no winner of their lotto jackpot on Sunday last, January 18 . The numbers drawn were 6, 16, 24 & 25. There was one match 3 winner, Annie Howlin, Screen who won €150. Next weeks jackpot stands at €12,000 and the draw takes place in the Roadhouse, Curracloe.
