Community Games AGM

The Piercestown Murrintown Community Games AGM will be held in St.Martins Centre on Friday 30th January at 7.30pm. Please try to attend to ensure that the Community Games will continue in our Area.

Active retired

Piercestown/Murrintown ARA Club are heading West on 29th August to Breaffy House Resort Hotels Castlebar Co Mayo for a 3 night DBB stay at this wonderful hotel. Price per person sharing is €250. SRS applies.

This will be a great weekend tour so book early. Day tours will include Visit to Knock Shrine, Museum of Life Castlebar, Foxford Woollen mills, Achill Island tour, Visit to Cong area and shopping time in Westport town.

Piercestown Scouts are teaming up with European Recycling Platform (ERP) to Recharge the Earth challenge. This event is to promote battery recycling and awareness among Scouting Ireland Youth Members and also the public in general. Piercestown Scout Group hope to collect as many batteries as possible for recycling and receive some tree coupons. Once we have collected sufficient boxes, ERP will Reward the group with tree coupons which can be exchanged for a tree. This exercise will divert batteries from landfills.

Bring your batteries to the Scout Meetings on Tuesdays and Thursdays, we will also put boxes in Londis and Roches Drinagh Shops and in Murrintown/Piercestown Church porches. Thank you for your support.

First Aid Training

A Basic First Aid Course will start in St.Martins Gaa Centre on Wednesday 28th January at 7.30pm. The course will continue for 6 weeks,the cost will be €95 which will include certification and a First Aid Book. For further information or to book a place contact Chris Culleton on 086 8476116.

Cooking Demo

Murrintown National School are delighted to host "Par Deux" Cooking Demonstration on Thursday 29th January with Head Chef Stephane Rochard of Kelly's Café. Steph is also well known for his mouth watering desserts at Kelly's Resort Hotel and has vast experience in working in many of France's gastronomic restaurants. He will show you his passion for being creative while turning simple dishes into work of art.

The night starts with a champagne reception at 7.30 pm followed by Steph's demonstration at 8.00 p.m. There will be culinary delights for every pallet!!

The school in recent years has undertook major renovations adding on 3 additional class rooms in 2014, but as the volume of children is increasing each year they are now undertaking a further development with two new rooms being added this summer.

Community Lotto

There was no winner of the last week's jackpot of €7,800. The winning numbers were, 5, 8, 10, 28. Congratulations to the 12 match three winners who each received €25. The next Bingo will be held in Rathangan Hall on Sunday 8th February beginning at 2.30pm. Prize fund €1500. We are asking for the support of the people of the parish for the bingo and all other parish fundraising events as proceeds are going towards the painting and heating refurbishments of the Parish Church.

Penny Bank

Cleariestown Penny Bank has reopened. Collections take place before mass on Saturday evening and Sunday morning. New members welcome. A great way to save for Christmas 2015.

Church Painting

The painting of Rathangan Church began on Wednesday 21st January and will be ongoing for approximately 6-8 weeks. The church will remain closed to the public during this time. All Saturday evening and Sunday morning masses will be held in Duncormick Church from Saturday January 24th until further notice.

Emergency church services e.g Funerals etc. will be held in Cleariestown, Duncormick or Carrig On Bannow Churches. Parishioners full co-operation would be appreciated during this time of renovation. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.


Anyone who would like to join up can start on either Wednesday or Thursday night. Ladies exercise/training night is Wednesday from 7.30 pm to 8.30pm at the club house/walking track. Men's exercise/training night is Thursday from 7.30pm to 8.30pm at the club house/walking track. Piercestown/Murrintown Active Retirement Association meets on Tuesday afternoons from 2.30pm to 4.30pm. It provides activities during those hours as well as facilitating day trips, meals out, etc. You don't have to be from the Piercestown/Murrintown area. All are most welcome from the Cleariestown and Rathangan area. A bus service is provided to collect you from and return you to your home. Variety Group

Rathangan Variety Group are holding a Variety Show in The Temple Bar, Rathangan on 19th and 20th February as a Fundraiser towards their February 2016 production. Hunt Canter

Killinick Harriers Hunt Club HUNT CANTER in aid of Rathangan Parish Church Restoration Fund and St Annes Ladies GAA is starting in Rathangan, Duncormick, Co. Wexford on Sunday 1st February from 10am- 2pm.

This Hunt canter is a suitable day for all the family. Over a 10 mile course with a variety of fences. Small options provided for green horses and novice riders. All fences optional. The January 50/50 Draw takes place in the school on Thursday 29th January with a prize money of €700 approximately.

Rosslare Rangers 'A' team had a 4-2 win at home to Taghmon Utd on Sunday last and lead the Division One table with only six league games remaining. Scorers: Niall Walsh(2 penalties), Aaron Kehoe and Michael Burke.
