Birthday Boy

We send our congratulations and good wishes to Robert Lambert, Newcastle, who along with family and friends celebrated his 80th birthday at the Riverbank house hotel, on Saturday night last.

GAA news

This weeks Lotto numbers in the Crossabeg/Ballymurn GAA draw were 23, 25, 28 and 29. There was no winner and one match three winner; Brian Foley and family. This weeks Jackpot stands at €10,000.

The Intermediate hurlers beat Cushinstown in the League on Sunday last on a 1-12 to 0-5 scoreline. The Junior B hurlers played out a draw with Askamore also in the league, the final score being 1-12 each. The Intermediate hurlers play away to Gorey on Friday next, March 20 at 8 p.m. ( note change of date) while the Junior B's play away to Liam Mellows on Saturday at 4.30 p.m on Saturday. The minor hurlers play Abban O'Rahillys in Adamstown on Sunday at 11 a.m.

The club dinner dance and medal presentations in association with the Ladies football club takes place on Saturday, March 28 in Ferrycarrig hotel. Music will be supplied by "Something Blue". Tickets now on sale at a cost of €25. Why not go along and help both clubs celebrate a very successful 2014.

DVD`s of the clubs "strictly club dancing" night are now available at €10 each. To order a copy, please contact John Cummins. Memberships are now due, adult players €100, students and non- playing members €50, all mentors, adult and underage €50.

Training

Training for U12 footballers will start in the Ballymurn pitch this Thursday, March 19 at 6.30 p.m. Hurling training will commence on Saturday, March 21 at 11.30 a.m. New players are always welcome. When evenings get longer, it is hoped to change training days.

Athletics

Well known senior member of St. Killian`s A.C, Niall Sheil continued his excellent form as of late when he travelled to Athlone to compete in the national 1500M over 35. Niall ran a great race leading from the gun to take the national title well clear of second place. This is a great result for Niall as he prepares for the European indoor masters championships in Poland at the end of the month. Great credit has to go to Niall`s coach Pavel Kolesnikov who has been instrumental in his development in recent years. Pavel also coaches Niall`s training partner Jackie Carthy, who won a silver medal in the 1500m Over 40 e

Ladies Football

A reminder to all Crossabeg/Ballymurn Ladies football club members that the football season has started and the training times for teams are as follows:-U12's on Wednesday's from 6.30-7.30 p.m. in Ballymurn; U14's on Monday's and Wednesday's from 6.30-7.30 p.m. in Ballymurn; U16's on Wednesday's from 7.30-8.30 p.m. in Ballymurn; adults on Wednesday's from 7.30-8.30 p.m. and Saturday's from 6.30-7.30 p.m in Ballymurn. These are the times generally but sometimes they will change and managers will inform their teams if this arises. All new members are welcome, either call to the field on training evenings or contact club secretary Ann Doyle.

Registration Night

Crossabeg/Ballymurn Ladies Football club will hold a registration day on Sunday, March 22 at Ballymurn pitch from 11 a.m until 1 p.m. Membership for the year is € 30 for the U10's and under: €50 for the U18's and Under and €70 for adults.

Easter Egg Hunt

Oylegate /Glenbrien Camogie club will hold an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 4 from 2-4 p.m in Oylegate pitch. The cost is €3 per child. All are welcome. Why not go along for an afternoon of fun and games.

Coffee morning

A Coffee morning in aid of the Irish Pilgrimage Trust (Group 308) will be held in Kyle Forge on Saturday, March 21 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. On the day there will be a cake sale, a raffle with some very good prizes and some tasty treats to eat. Group 308 bring young adults with special needs on a pilgrimage to Lourdes at Easter. Your support would be much appreciated.

Handwriting

Well done to all the children from the Community Games areas who excelled in the County finals of the Handwriting competition held recently in Castlebridge school. Gold medals were won by Evan Gillen, Castlebridge, and Nathan Rossiter, Screen. A silver medal was won by Oghenaganre Akpubi from Ballymurn and bronze medals by Saoirse Banville from Screen and Tadhg English from Ballymurn. The presentation of the medals will take place at the Riverbank house hotel, Ferryybank, Wexford on Tuesday, March 31 at 7 p.m.

Bingo

Another €1000 will be given away at the bingo session on behalf of Bridge Rovers Soccer club which will take place on Sunday, April 5 in Castlebridge hall, commencing at 3 p.m. All are welcome.

Mini Marathon

If would like to take part in this years ladies mini marathon in aid of the Tracie Lawlor Trust for Cystic Fibrosis, sponsorship cards and fundraising packs are available now. There will be a bus provided there and back so it will be one big group occasion, along with some grub on the way home, which gives everyone a chance to relax and chat about the day.

Rosslare Duathlon

The Rosslare Duathlon will take place on Sunday, March 29. The duathlon consists of a 3.2 k run, a 23k cycle and another 3.2 run. If you are a member of a cycling club, why not team up with an athletic club and enter teams in the relay event. There are lots of prizes and refreshments on the day. Registration costs €25 and the entry for the relay teams is €30.

School of Music

The Shelmalier School of Music will go ahead on Wednesday this week, instead of the usual Tuesday, today being St. Patricks Day. Classes at the usual times Lessons in tin whistle, flute, guitar, bodhran, banjo, mandolin, button accordion, fiddle, melodica and keyboard and singing.

All levels welcome. Adult lessons are also available. All lessons cost €7 per lesson which includes band practice.

Screen school news

The Parents Council of Screen school will present their Easter fundraiser 'Duck Race Night' on Friday, March 27 at 9 p.m in Freddie's bar, Screen. All proceeds of this night will support the school's outdoor development project 2015. The organisers promise an enjoyable night at the local races, with lots of fun, excitement, water, duck racing, prizes, music and lots more. Why not go along to join the fun. Your support is always very much appreciated. All are welcome to attend. You will have the opportunity to purchase a duck for €5 from any committee member on the following dates, Friday, March 20 outside the school at 2 p.m and 3 p.m and again on Friday, March 27 at 12 noon outside the school. Congratulations to the girls mini-sevens football team who won their group games on Thursday, March 5 playing against Glynn , The Mercy and Crossabeg school teams. They now qualify for the next round and we wish them the best of luck.

Curracloe school news

Well done to recent 'Split the Pot' winners John & Mag Harding who won €244. The next draw will be held on Monday, March 23. The cost is €2 per entry. Well done to the boys who took part in the Allianz Mini Sevens hurling tournament last week. The boys qualified for the next round. Thank you to the parents who supported the teams and provided lifts.

GAA news

The Shelmalier senior hurlers had their first outing in the first round of the league when they travelled to Rathangan to take on the local St Anne's side on Sunday last. In an entertaining game the Shelmaliers won by the narrowest of margins 0-9 to 1-5. The match was a very even affair with little between the sides throughout.

The Shels junior hurlers were at home to Ferns on Sunday afternoon and had a convincing 2-14 to 0-11 win. Playing with the assistance of the wind in the first half the Shels built up a commanding first half lead, with Ferns coming more into the game in the second half but they couldn't catch the more dominate Shelmalier side.

The Shelmalier minor footballers were also in action on Sunday when they travelled to Taghmon in the third round of the minor championship and after a great struggle the sides were level 1-7 to 0-10 at the final whistle. Playing against the wind in the first half the Shelmalier boys trailed by five points at half time 0-1 to 0-6. However the Shelmaliers were much more dominate in the second half and traded point for point in the third quarter. With time ticking down on the clock Liam Rockett fired to the Taghmon net to draw the match. Next week it's the turn of the minor hurling championship when Rathnure are the opponents.

Congratulation to Shelmalier players Jody Donohoe, Conor Hearne and Glen Malone who played an enormous part in St Peters College outstanding victory over St Brigid's of Loughrea by 0-17 to 0-10 in Saturdays All Ireland senior A hurling quarter final. The team now go forward to the All Ireland semi final against Thurles CBS in the near future.

There was no winner of the Shelmalier Lotto draw on March 9 when the numbers drawn were 10, 15, 24 and 28. There was one match 3 winner, Marie Howlin who received €200.

Development Lotto

Results of Curracloe United AF lotto draw made on March 15 were 4, 5, 12 & 26. There was no Jackpot winner and 3 match 3 winners, who received €50 each, Dave Rowe, Glenbough, Curracloe; Mary Tobin, Coolrainey, Curracloe and Mick Kavanagh, Screen. Next weeks Jackpot is worth €14,000 and the draw takes place in the Roadhouse on Sunday, March 22.

CAMOGIE NEWS

All players are invited to march with the club in today's parade, meeting in Maudlintown at 10.15 a.m. Please wear a navy tracksuit bottoms and the club hoodie if you have one, while jerseys will be given out. Bring a hurl and no helmet, and make sure to wear lots of layers of clothing! Parents may collect their daughters in Sam McCauley's car park immediately after the parade.

Congratulations to Kate Kelly and Chris Gordon who were married on Friday.

Happy birthday today to Keeva Campbell, and to Fionnuala Hearne who was celebrating on Saturday.

Aine Lacey (1-0), Ciara Donohoe, Bridget Curran and Deirdre McMahon were on the Wexford Senior team which lost to Limerick by 0-19 to 1-4 in the National League in Bruff on Sunday.
