Gaa Notes

Congratulations to Ballymurn Mini- Sevens football team on beating Rathangan in the Mini -Sevens Final last week in St Patricks Park.

The Club are organising a first aid and defibrillator training course in April. One mentor from each underage and adult team are expected to attend. For more details please contact Theresa Larrissy.

Memberships for 2015 are now due. Adult players: €100, students and non playing members: €50. All mentors (adult and underage) memberships are €50 All under age memberships due also. All memberships must be paid in full

Church Gate Collection

St Patrick's Special School Bohreen Hill Enniscorthy are holding their annual church gate collection in Ballymurn on Saturday 2nd & Sunday 3rd May. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Parish Dance

The Ballymurn Parish Dance will take place on Friday 5th June in the Curracloe Tavern Music by Fiona Ennis & Thomas Maguire. Tickets €10

Irish Night

There will be an Irish Night in the Anvil Pub Ballymurn on Friday 24th A|pril. Everyone welcome.

Church Gate Collection

The annual church gate collection for Our Lady of Fatima special school in wexford will hold a gate collection at the churches in your parish on the weekend of 25th and 26th April.

Vintage Club

The Over The Water Vintage Club hosted their annual Eastertime gathering. on Sunday 12th April Around 100 vehicles participated in the road run enjoying their pit stops in the Sawdust, Bobs Bar and Freddies. Back to Ballymurn and the catering ladies treated them to well earned refreshments.

Chairman John Redmond thanked all participants, sponsors and helpers. Treasurer Eamon Nolan officiated at the drawing of prizes. Club President Fr Jim Finn paid tribute to all the organisers , helpers, facilitators and especially the visiting clubs for supporting our fundraiser, He complimented the good deeds and good work of Vintage clubs in the restoring of our heritage.

Annual Litter Lift

The Annual An Taisce Spring Clean was a great success on Saturday, 11th April. Thanks to all the volunteers who turned up on the Bridge from most areas of the parish. The skip provided by Wexford County Council was filled to capacity following several hours of hard work removing rubbish from the roadside verges. A special word of thanks to the drivers and those who provided transport on the day. It was truly a team effort.

Blackwater Tidy Towns looks forward to the continued cooperation of the general public in maintaining a litter-free environment in our area.

Macra na Feirme

Coffee Morning

The Parent's Association of Coláiste an Átha, Kilmuckridge, will host their annual Coffee Morning in the Lounge of the Crosses Pub in Kilmuckridge from 10am to 12.00pm on Friday, 1st May. Tickets are available at the College reception during the school day or just come along on the day. There will be lots of door and raffle prizes.

The Parent's Association are involved in many aspects of school life, helping out at the Open Night, the Enrolment Night, 1st year Parent's Information Evening, policy development and fundraising to mention but a few. All are welcome to attend the Coffee Morning and your support will be very much appreciated.


GAA club notes

Hard luck to the Intermediate A footballers who narrowly lost by one point to Duffry Rovers in the championship on Sunday, going down 1-8 to 2-6. The Junior B footballers got their district championship campaign off to a good start when the defeated the Shels 3-11 to 2-3 on Friday evening.

The Intermediate hurlers play Adamstown in the League on Saturday next, April 25 at 4 p.m in Ballymurn, while the Junior B hurlers play Craanford also in the League on Sunday next at 2 p.m in Ballymurn.

Well done to Ballymurn school who won the Mini Sevens football title last week, when they defeated a team from Rathangan to claim the title.


A reminder that outdoor training for juveniles takes place every Monday and Thursday evening from 7.8.15 p.m. New members are always welcome.

Pilgrimage to Knock

On Sunday, April 26, the Apostolate of Eucharist Adoration has planned its third national pilgrimage to Knock. A bus has been booked which will leave on Saturday, April 25 and returning on the evening of April 26. There will also be activities for children and teenagers on the pilgrimage. The cost is €90 which includes bus, one dinner, B & B in Knock House. All this information is available on a poster at the back of the church in Crossabeg. A reminder to all to return Trocaire boxes as soon as possible.

Community Games

The local committee will hold their athletic finals in the community field in Crossabeg on Wednesday, May 13. Registration will be at 6.30 p.m. These finals are open to boys and girls from under 8 right up to under 16 years. There will be sprints for all the even ages and the programme will also include 200M, 400M, 600M and 800M events. As well as that there will be Long Jump and Long Puck and Ball Throw. Wexford Pilgrimage

A pilgrimage to The Holy Land is planned from October 23 to October 31. It will include four nights in Bethlehem and four nights in Tiberias. The Spiritual Director is Fr. Danny McDonald. The cost is €1,295. Bookings can be made through Teresa on 053-9120124.

Ferrycarrig Rowing Club

Ferrycarrig Rowing Club will resume rowing training on May 6 at 7 p.m for juniors & 8.15 p.m. for seniors. Training Monday & Wednesday evening only for juniors & U16's. Training Monday, Wednesday & Friday evenings for seniors & U18 crews. New members always welcome. Hope to see all the old faces there too.

Annual General Meeting

Bridge Drama Society will hold their annual general meeting on Wednesday, April 22 at 8 p.m. in the Porter House, Castlebridge. All are welcome.


At a recent meeting of Castlebridge Show committee, a vote of sympathy was passed to the family of Mary Walsh (nee Murphy), Scar,Duncormick and formely of St Ibars Villas, Castlebridge on their recent bereavement.

Pool Tournament

Myles Doyle was the winner of last weeks Richard Furlong Memorial tournament at the Roadhouse, Curracloe. The final will take place on Saturday, April 25, beginning at 2 with €1500 worth of prize money up for grabs. Kindly sponsored by ST Civil Engineering Ballina and Bones Furlong Digger hire.


"The 'Screen '15' committee would like to thank everyone who participated in and donated prizes for the quiz held in Freddie's on Friday, April 10. The total amount realised by the fundraiser was €400 which will be a great start-up for the big day which will take place on Saturday, June 27. So keep that date in your diaries, Screen '15, street party on June 27.

Development Lotto

The numbers drawn in the Curracloe United AFC lotto draw on Sunday last were 5, 10, 16 & 17. There was no Jackpot winner and no match three winners. €300 will be shared next week for match three winners and the jackpot stands at €15,250. The draw takes place in the Curracloe Tavern.

GAA club news

There were no winners of the Shelmalier Lotto on April 13 when the jackpot stood at €4,400 and the numbers drawn were 10,11, 26 and 32. There were no match three winners.

Shelmalier senior footballers made it two wins out of two in the championship on Sunday last in Wexford park when they overcame a determined Sarsfield's side on a score line of 3-11 to 3-8. Points from Craig McCabe, Stephen Banville and Eoghan Nolan and a goal from Craig McCabe on the stroke of half time saw the Over the Water side with a half time lead of 1-5 to 0-6.

The Shels started the second half brightly with a further goal from Craig McCabe and points from Aidan Cash, Brian Doyle and Liam Donnelly which saw them build up a commanding lead. However, the Sarsfields came back strongly and a third goal from Liam Donnelly five minute before time sealed a narrow victory for the Shelmaliers.

The club would like to extend a speedy recovery to Clive Lawlor-Ryan who sustained a serious leg injury during this match. The next assignment for this team is a first championship hurling match against Oulart/Ballagh in Belefield in two weeks time.

The junior footballers also continued their recent good form with a commanding 2-20 to 0-1 victory over Buffers Alley played in Blackwater on Sunday evening last. With Tony Smith and Derek Walsh firing over all available frees and from play, the goals, one in each half, came from both Barry O Connor and Tony Smith. The Shelmaliers were strong in both attack and defence from start to finish. Other scores included Michael Feeney, Jody Donohoe, Barry O Connor, Aaron Murphy.

Super Draw

There are only two weeks remaining before the Shelmalier super draw takes place in Hotel Curracloe on Monday, May 4 at 7 p.m. The excitement is building in the parish and beyond on who will be the proud winner of the first prize of a new Skoda and the many others prizes.

The club would like to cordially invite the many supporters of the draw to attend what will no doubt be a great social occasion for the whole parish with music and food served after the draw. The club would also like to take this opportunity to thank the many people who have supported and assisted with the sales of the tickets since the start of the draw.

The club would like to remind those who have yet to return their tickets to return same as soon as possible.

Table Quiz

Curracloe United AFC are holding their annual table quiz in Hotel Curracloe on Friday night next, April 24 at 9.30 p.m. Entry fee for a table of 4 people is only €20.

There will also be a monster raffle on the night,with the first prize of a helicopter ride. Other prizes include a dog kennel valued at €150, surf lessons and many more. All monies raised go to the schoolboy section of the club. Your support would be much appreciated.

Screen school update

To launch the active school week, Screen school Parents' council have organised a family walk at the Raven, Curracloe which will take place on Sunday, April 26 at 12 noon. They would love to see as many as possible attend as it promises to be a great gathering of the school community and an excellent start to Active School week.

The final 'In Memory of me' Mass for second class children will take place on Sunday, April 26 at 11 a.m. Children will receive their Holy Communion on Saturday, May 16 at 11 a.m in Screen church.

In conjunction with the 50th Anniversary of the school, a committee are compiling photographs and memorabilia and making great progress with your help. There is great interest from past pupils and the local community.

Curracloe school news

Well done to recent 'Split the Pot' winner Eleanor Lacey who won €184. The next draw will be held in the school on Monday, April 27. The cost is €2 per entry. On Wednesday, April 15, Andrew Butler from The Wildfowl Reserve visited the school and gave two very informative and interesting presentations on bats to the third, fourth, fifth and sixth class pupils. Many thanks to Andrew for his hard work.

On Tuesday, April 14 two teams from fifth and sixth classes took part in the FAI Schools 5-a-side Blitz in Ferrycarrig Park. The teams represented the school very well, both for skills and behaviour. Well done to the boys who reached the final.

Ladies Football

Shelmalier Ladies Football Club had their first training session for Gaelic4Mothers & Others last week which was a great success. Training will take place every Tuesday at 7.30 p.m. All new players are welcome. This is a fun and social way to enjoy football so please spread the word. The American tea party will be held as a fundraiser on Saturday, April 25 in Castlebridge hall at 7 p.m. Entry is €10 per person and the club are appealing to people to host a table of 10 persons. All are welcome. If you wish to attend, please contact Declan Flynn on 087-6124340.

Soccer camp

Bookings are now open for the FAI summer soccer camp which takes place at Bridge Rovers from August 10 until August 14. Log on now to to book. To avoid disappointment early booking is essential

Social dancing

Social dancing will begin in Screen hall on Tuesday, April 28 at 9.30 p.m. Music will be supplied by Catherine and the Images. Admission is €8. Refreshments will be served.

The dancing will take place on the last Tuesday of every month and there will be lots of fantastic bands to look forward to, including local band Theresa & the Stars, Glen Flynn, Lar Kenny and many more. Watch this space for future details. All proceeds towards the upkeep of Screen hall.

Another €1000 will be given away at the Bingo session to be held in Castlebridge hall on Sunday, May 10 in aid of the local Bridge Rovers Soccer club. The session begins at 3 p.m. All are welcome.


Last week was a busy one for club teams, with the Minors defeating Ferns St. Aidan's by 5-9 to 2-3, the Under-16s losing to Rathnure by 3-7 to 1-6, the Under-14s going down to Bunclody by 4-5 to 0-3, and the Under-10s participating in their first cluster blitz.

Well done to the Rackard League team on their 5-5 to 2-2 victory over Piercestown, and to Mikaela Lanigan and Caitlin Carroll who filled the corner-back positions when Loreto (Wexford) beat Presentation (Kilkenny) by 2-10 to 2-4 in the Leinster championship on Wednesday.

New players will be warmly welcomed at all levels, so feel free to contact any of the under-age team managers if your daughter is interested in giving camogie a go.
