Vintage Road Run

Blackwater Vintage Club's annual vintage tractor and car road run will take place on Sunday 24th May leaving Blackwater church carpark at 12.30. Registration from 11.30am in Blackwater Hall. Proceeds to Rosslare Harbour Lifeboat.


Church news

There will be a parish pilgrimage to Knock on July 5 in conjunction with the Diocese of Ferns pilgrimage which will be led by Bishop Denis Brennan. If interested please book with the parish office or Fr. Jim on 087-2119151.

Daily Mass on Wednesday and Friday morning at 9.30 a.m.

A pilgrimage to the Holy Land will take place from October 23 to October 31 with visits of Bethlehem, Jerusalem, the Dead Sea, Nazareth and other places of interest. For bookings contact Fr. Danny McDonald on 053-9388521 of Teresa Wickham on 053-9120124. The cost is €1295, insurance €25 and a single room will cost €260.

Soccer dates

Crossabeg Soccer club will hold their end of season Social night in Foleys on Friday night, May 15. On Sunday, May 17 they will hold their annual Charity match, and would appreciate your generous support. The annual general meeting of the club will take place on Friday, May 22.

Text Alert

Crossabeg Community Text Alert committee are pleased to report that with the support from their members and with the erection of 24 signs throughout the parish, substantial reductions in the amount of criminal activity has been seen during the past 18 months. However, for this service to remain efficient and effective for the future, they require more support from households which will increase awareness and alertness of more people in the community. They are inviting new members to show support and register for the scheme at Kyle Forge on Saturday, May 16 from 2-3 p.m.

First Holy Communion

30 young children from Crossabeg national school received their First Holy Communion at a special ceremony in Crossabeg church on Saturday morning last. Every blessing to the boys and girls who received;

Community Games

The local committee will hold the athletic finals in the community field in Crossabeg on Wednesday, May 13. Registration will be at 6.30 p.m. These finals are open to boys and girls from under 8 right up to under 16 years. There will be sprints for all the even ages and the programme will also include 200M, 400M, 600M and 800M events. As well as that there will be Long Jump and Long Puck and Ball Throw. Table Quiz

Crossabeg/Ballymurn GAA club and Ladies Football club are holding a fun table quiz on Friday, May 15 at 9 p.m in The Anvil in Ballymurn to help raise funds for the upcoming Feile Peil na Óg.


Day 1 of the juvenile county track and field championships took place on a blustery track on Sunday, May 3 at The Hub in Enniscorthy. A small number of athletes from St. Killians attended but they came home loaded down with medals. Cian Kinlough did the club proud bringing home a gold in the U14 long jump and a bronze in the 1500m. Sally Shortle won a silver in the long jump and two bronze medals, in the U16 100m sprint and the high jump. Amy Forde came third and earned a bronze medal in the U16 shot putt. Paul Freeman got a well desired bronze medal in the U15 1500m. Jack Forde won a gold in the U13 shot putt and a silver in the long jump. Anna Finan, Rebecca Fanning and Kate Freeman performed very well but narrowly missed out on medals.

Day 2 of the juvenile county track and field championships took place on Sunday last, May 10 at the Hub in Enniscorthy. Once again St. Killians juveniles were rewarded for all their hard work over the winter season. Cian Kinlough brought home three bronze medals from the 75m hurdles, the high jump and the 800m in the Under 14 category. Paul Freeman continued his strong performances with a bronze medal from the 800m under 15. Jack Forde did himself proud with 3 medals-a gold in the U13 high jump, a silver in the 80m sprint and a bronze in the 60m hurdles.

Rebecca Fanning showed her potential getting a bronze medal in a hard fought U11. 60m final and Bláthnaid Sinnott got a well deserved bronze in the U13 high jump. William Murphy, Catherine Murphy and Kate Freeman all performed very well but narrowly missed out on medals. Congratulations also to Amy Forde who won a bronze medal in the discus event at the south Leinster schools at Scanlon Park, Kilkenny on Wednesday of last week with a PB of 24.37m. Best of luck to her in the Leinster schools on Saturday next, May 16 in Santry.

The official opening of the Hub track in Enniscorthy will take place on Saturday, May 16. We need to see a good turnout of athletes and parents lending their support. The programme begins at 1.30 p.m.

GAA news

Well done to recent lotto winners, Anthony Byrne, Declan Cullen and Eileen & Jodie D. Well done to Ballymurn school who won the Mini Sevens hurling title recently when they defeated Horeswood. This win also meant that they have now won the double, having already won the football final the week before. It was a great achievement and great credit must go to all the players and their teachers. The U14 footballers will host Enniskillen club from Fermanagh in this years Feile in June.

Last weeks lotto numbers were 8, 18, 19 and 27. There was no winner. The match three winner was Betty Sutton. This weeks Jackpot is worth €10,000.

Well done to the Intermediate hurlers who defeated Ballygarrett in the championship on Sunday last, following a draw with Askamore the previous week. The Junior B footballers play Our Ladys Island in the league on Saturday next in Ballymurn at 5.30 p.m, while the Intermediate footballers will play Realt na Mara afterwards at 7 p.m, also in the league.

Barn Dance

Crossabeg/Ballymurn GAA club will hold a Barn dance in John Cullens Grain store on May 30. Tickets are now on sale at a cost of €15 each. Your support would be much appreciated.


Oylegate/Glenbrien Camogie club will host 'The Cube' competition on Saturday, June 6 at 8.30 p.m in The Riverbank Hotel, Wexford. Tickets cost €10 each and there is also a door prize on the night.

The committee will be out selling tickets in the coming weeks. If any business wishes to sponsor one of the games for The Cube please get in touch with one of the committee members.

Over The Water

Active school week

St. Ibars national school in Castlebridge and the community participated in Active School Week. A super active and fun week was enjoyed by all.

Local clubs shared their expertise with pupils in the school through activities such as gymnastics, stretch n'grow, gaelic football, aquatics and much much more. Mini-world cup and walk/run a mile with a smile kept pupils active during break times. Active homework proved to be a big hit with all.

A huge congratulations goes to the Green School Committee on obtaining their 4th Green School flag for travel. Pupils continue to make a special effort to scoot, walk or cycle to school on Wednesdays. Well done to all.

Development Lotto

The following are the results of the Curracloe United AFC lotto draw for Sunday last, May 10. The numbers drawn were 9, 17, 20 & 24. There was no Jackpot winner and 3 match 3 winners who received €50 each, Diarmuid Doolan, Riverglen, Curracloe; Mairead Kinsella, Ballinamorragh, Curracloe and Sean Doyle, Barnahask, Curracloe.

Results of draw held by Curracloe United AFC on Sunday, May 2. The numbers drawn were 2, 9, 21 & 27. There was no Jackpot winner and three match 3 winners who received €150 each, Anne Carty, Yellow Road, Curracloe; James Shiggins, Elderwood, Castlebridge and Ibar Murphy (Snr) Newfort, Screen.

Next weeks Jackpot is worth €16,000 and the draw will take place in the Curracloe Roadhouse on Sunday, May 17.

Social dancing

A great crowd attended the first Social dancing night recently in Screen hall. The next social dancing will take place on Tuesday, May 26 commencing at 9.30 p.m. Admission is €8 and refreshments will be served. Music will be provided by Glenn Flynn. Watch this space for further details each week. Lots more bands will feature, including Theresa & the Stars, the Moynihans, Lar Kenny & Co (last Tuesday of each month)

Scrap metal

The scrap metal collection continues at the skip is in C&C Providers yard in Screen. Should you have any questions please contact John Fielding on 087- 6381114. All proceeds go to the upkeep of Screen hall. Your support is always much appreciated.

ICA guild

An ICA Guild has been formed in Castlebridge. The ICA guild folded 12 years ago but there has been great interest expressed in the guild so far and a warm welcome is extended to all ladies who would like to join.

The following were elected at the recent meeting held in the community centre:- Eleanor O`Connor (President) Josie Browne (Vice-President) Ann Murphy (Secretary) Betty Breen (Treasurer) Evelyn Griffith (Assistant Treasurer) Vonnie Evans (PRO) and Mai Roche, Terry Brennan, Eucharia Brazil as committee members.

The Guild will hold their first meeting on Monday, May 18 at 8 p.m. in the community centre in Castlebridge.

Ladies Football

Well done to the Shelmalier U12 and U16 teams who played Crossabeg/Ballymurn last week. Good luck to the Junior team who will play Taghmon/Camross this Thursday in the Junior championship. Membership is now due and the club are asking all members to pay as soon as possible to ensure they are eligible to train and play matches.

The club are holding a clothes collection in Hollymount on Saturday, May 30. Each bag of clothes collected will generate funds for the club so all members are being urged to start clearing out their wardrobes to make way for the summer clothes.

Annual General Meeting

Bridge Rovers AFC will hold their annual general meeting on Friday, May 22 at 7.30 p.m. in their own Clubhouse. All parents and players are welcome and your support would be appreciated.

Neighbourhood watch

Castlebridge Community Development Co-Operative Society are holding a public meeting to gauge interest in the setting up of a Neighbourhood Watch scheme in the area. The meeting will take place tonight, May 12 in Castlebridge community centre at 8 p.m. If you are interested in finding out more information, then please go along to the meeting . Please spread the word and encourage your friends and neighbours to go along too.

Soccer camp

Bookings are now open for the FAI summer soccer camp which takes place at Bridge Rovers from August 10 until August 14. Log on now to to book. To avoid disappointment early booking is essential.

Community Alert

The villages of Screen and Curracloe have come together to set up a Community Alert (CA) system. The organisers are holding two cake and produce sales on Sunday, May 31. They will be held in the school after the 9.30 a.m. Mass in Curracloe and in Screen hall after the 11 a.m. Mass.

Help is needed to make these enterprises a success, so your donation of cakes, bottles, cash donations, sponsorship of prizes or any saleable item would be much appreciated.

The final of Wexford's got talent (Curracloe style) takes place in Furlongs pub, Curracloe, on Friday night next, May 15 at 8 p.m. Make sure you go along and support your favourite act.

Super Draw

The grand final draw for the wonderful prizes in the Shelmalier super draw took place in Hotel Curracloe on Monday last, May 4. There was great anticipation and excitement in the room as the first ticket was drawn from the drum. The winner was John Pitt from Murrintown who was the lucky winner of a new Skoda car supplied by Donohoe's Skoda or €10,000.

GAA club news

After the disappointment of the previous Saturdays narrow defeat to Oulart/ The Ballagh, the Shelmalier senior hurlers got back to winning ways with a convincing 2-17 to 0-7 victory over Shamrocks played in Oylegate on Sunday evening last.

The Enniscorthy side were quick off the mark and had three points on the scoreboard before Joe Kelly pointed his side's first point in the eighth minute. However, once the Shels got going they were in commanding form with first half scores coming from Joe Kelly, Ciaran O Shaughnessy, Eoin Doyle, Brian Doyle and Simon Donohoe, to leave a half time score of Shelmaliers 1-12 Shamrocks 0-4. The second half continued in the same fashion with James Cash scoring his sides second goal after three minutes of the restart with Stephen Banville and Joe Kelly contributing the other scores of the second half.

The Shelmalier junior hurlers also got into their winning way with a great 0-22 to 1-6 victory over Gorey played in St. Patrick's Park on Saturday evening last. Having lost by the narrowest of margins the previous week to Taghmon the Shels were in determined form from the throw in. Michael Feeney got the Shels off to an early start with a point in the fourth minute, followed by Paraic O Leary, Jody Donohoe and Emmet O Leary. Sharpshooter Conor Byrne lead the way with seven first half points and five second half points.

The team consisted of P. McCleane, E. Fitzgerald, K. O `Leary, D. Malone, B. O`Connor, D. Kelly, C. Gaule, G. Malone, C. Walsh, E. O`Leary, P. O`Leary, M. Feeney, J. Donohoe, C.Byrne and W. Well done to the Minors who qualified for the county semi-final with a big win over Oylegate-Glenbrien last week.

Best wishes to the Under-16s who are due to play Craanford-Monaseed at home on Thursday, May 14th, at 6.30 p.m. in their second Wexford People Premier championship game.
