Church news

A parish pilgrimage to Knock takes place on July 5 in conjunction with the Diocese of Ferns pilgrimage which will be led by Bishop Denis Brennan. If interested please book with the parish office or Fr. Jim on 087-2119151.

Daily Mass on Wednesday and Friday morning at 9.30 a.m.

A pilgrimage to the Holy Land will take place from October 23 to October 31 with visits of Bethlehem, Jerusalem, the Dead Sea, Nazareth and other places of interest. For bookings contact Fr. Danny McDonald on 053-9388521 of Teresa Wickham on 053-9120124. The cost is €1295, insurance €25 and a single room will cost €260.

Members and supporters alike are most welcome at the Crossabeg Soccer clubs annual general meeting on Friday, May 22.

Barn Dance

Crossabeg/Ballymurn GAA club will hold a Barn dance in John Cullens Grain store on May 30. Tickets are now on sale at a cost of €15 each. Your support would be much appreciated.

Our condolences also to Michelle Bridges-Carley and family, Ballyharron, Crossabeg, on the death of her Mother, Mrs. Olive Bridges, Parnell Street, Wexford, whose funeral takes place to Crosstown cemetery following Requiem Mass in Bride Street church today, Tueday, May 19. GAA club news

Last weeks lotto numbers were 1, 22, 24 and 30. There was no winner. Lucky dip winners were Liam Kehoe and Joanne O'Leary. This weeks Jackpot is worth €10,000.

Best of luck to the intermediate hurlers who play Oylegate in the championship on Saturday evening at 7.30 p.m. Best of luck to the Junior B hurlers on Friday as they play St. Annes in the championship.


Oylegate/Glenbrien Camogie club will host 'The Cube' competition on Saturday, June 6 at 8.30 p.m in The Riverbank Hotel, Wexford. Tickets cost €10 each and there is also a door prize on the night. The committee will be out sellldoing tickets in the coming weeks. If any business wishes to sponsor one of the games for The Cube please get in touch with one of the committee members.

Cake and Book Sale

Crossabeg Parents Association will hold their annual cake and book sale at the school on Monday, May 25 at 9.30 a.m. All donations of books and DVDs are welcome in the school office from Monday, May 18 to Wednesday, May 20. All donations of cakes etc are welcome on the day of the event. All proceeds go towards the subsidy of busses for school tours and field trips.


Congratulations to Amy Forde, St. Killians athlete, who finished in fourth place in the Discus competition at the Secondary schools Leinster finals which took place in Santry on Saturday last. Amy was so close to the medal winners and she set a new PB of 24.84. The club was represented at the Hub in Enniscorthy on Saturday afternoon last for the official opening event. Juvenile and senior members as well as officials were very proud to march behind their new banner. The club also wishes to congratulate coach Nicky Cowman whose protege Ryan Carthy-Walsh from Adamstown achieved a height of 2.03 in the High Jump which qualified him for the European Youths championships. A reminder that training continues every Monday and Thursday evening from 7.8.15 p.m. New members are always welcome.

Community Games

The local Games committee wish to thank each and everyone who attended the local athletic finals held at the community field on Wednesday evening of last week. There was a good attendance and the committee wish to thank most sincerely members of the local Athletic club for help in getting the field ready and for their help on the night. Thanks also to those who helped with the medal presentations and recording of events and finally many thanks to the school committees who spread the word around to the children in the respective schools.

Bridge Rovers AFC will hold their annual general meeting on Friday, May 22 at 7.30 p.m. in their own Clubhouse. All parents and players are welcome and your support would be appreciated.

Soccer camp

Bookings are now open for the FAI summer soccer camp which takes place at Bridge Rovers from August 10 until August 14. Log on now to to book. To avoid disappointment early booking is essential.

Ladies Football

Well done to the Shelmalier Juniors who won their first championship game on Thursday of last week. Best of luck to the U12`s, U14's and U16's, all of whom have games this week. A reminder that memberships are due. All players need to have membership handed in to a committee member as soon as possible to be eligible to play. Training for Gaelic4Mothers&others continues on Tuesday evenings at 7 p.m. Contact Mag Doherty on 087-2669671 for further information. A reminder also that the clothes collection takes place on May 30.

Curracloe school news

Congratulations and well down to the thirteen pupils from second class who received their First Holy Communion on May 9. Thanks to all the school children who sang so beautifully in the choir. Thanks also to Mr. Hackett and the Parent's committee for all their hard work over the last number of months, preparing the children for their big day. Thanks to the Parent's Association who provided refreshments at the post communion party in the school.

Well done to recent 'Split the Pot' winners Dennis & Helen Redmond who won €184. The next draw will be held in the school on Monday, May 25. The cost is €2 per entry. The specially designed envelopes remain available in all local businesses and directly to parents or guardians in the school.

Well done to the boys who recently won their Rackard League match against Kennedy Park but were unlucky to lose to Rathangan. Fifth and sixth class children took part in the Tag Rugby blitz at Wexford Wanderers Rugby club on Thursday of last week. Well done to the boys and girls who took part and did so well in the Community Games athletic events in Crossabeg on Wednesday, May 13.

The Parent's Association have organised a new and used clothing collection. Please leave in your bags of clothes etc. at the school between 9.15 a.m. and 2 p.m. on any school day up to and including Thursday, May 21. The following items will be accepted, new and used men's, women's and children's clothing, shoes, belts, handbags, ties, linens, household textiles and stuffed toys.

Auction/Field Day

All roads lead to the Shelmalier GAA grounds in Hollymount on bank holiday Monday, June 1 when the local GAA club hold their very popular family fun Field Day with a large range of activities on offer to cater for the whole family.

If its children sports, treasure hunt, hurling skills you are looking for, or would like to enjoy either a nice cup of tea and a bun or a juicy burger, Hollymount is the place to be. You can place your bets and enjoy the thrills and excitement of either sheep racing or duck racing.

Due to popular demand this year's field day will include a special charity auction with a large range of items on sale at bargain prices with everything from children toys to a large range of household items. More details next week but save that date in your diary.

GAA club news

The third round of the hurling championship returns next weekend with both senior and junior Shelmalier teams in action. The junior hurlers play Monageer on Friday, May 22 in St Patrick's Park, Enniscorthy, beginning at 6.30 p.m, while the senior hurlers play Ferns in Bellefield on Saturday, May 23, beginning at 2 p.m. Your support for both teams would be greatly appreciated.

There was no winner of the Shelmalier Lotto draw in Monday, May 11 when the following numbers were drawn, 3, 12, 17 and 32. There was one match 3 winner, Anne Walsh from Wexford who won €200.

First Communion class

Congratulations to the twenty boys and girls who received the Sacrament of Communion on Saturday last in Screen church, Bonnie, Gavin, Chloe, J.P, Zara, Cillian, Aoife, Chris, Aimee, Joshua, Róisín, Luke, Niamh, Max, Cara-Jai, Cormac, Jordan, Joe, Eoin and Liam. A big thank you to their teacher Miss Anne Dempsey, Principal Mrs Fiona Wickham, the school staff, the Communion committee, Parents' Council and parents, and Fr. Denis Kelly, all of whom helped make this such a special day.

Screen school memoirs

The committee are now compiling all photographs and memorabilia that they have received to date, but they need your help. If you attended Screen school and have group photographs, especially from the 1960`s, 1970`s and 1980`s when cameras were rare, please contact Patricia Fielding as soon as possible on 087-9290975 or email The book will roll back the years in stories and photographs, reminding everyone of years gone by.

Keep this date in your diaries: Saturday,October 24, when the school re-union and book launch will take place. Please spread the word to all past pupils.

Social Dancing

Screen hall committee are now preparing for the next social dancing night which takes place on Tuesday, May 26 at 9.30 p.m. Admission is €8 and refreshments will be served. Music will be supplied by Glenn Flynn. So please go along and support your local hall. All proceeds will go towards the upkeep of the hall.

Scrap Metal collection

The scrap metal collection continues will the skip located in C&C Building Providers yard. It can be accessed Monday to Saturday from 8.30 a.m until 5 p.m. Thanks to Colm, Maresa and Darren Corrigan. Development Lotto

The following are the results of the lotto draw made on behalf of Curracloe United AFC on Sunday, May 17. The numbers drawn were 14, 22, 23 & 27. There was no jackpot winner and two match three winners who received €75 each, Declan Hearne, Galbally, Curracloe and Tommy Rossitor, St Cyprian Villas, Screen. Next weeks Jackpot is worth €16,250 and the draw takes place in the Curracloe Tavern on Sunday, May 24 at 9 p.m.


Well done to the Under-14s who secured a deserved 3-3 to 2-6 draw with Oulart-The Ballagh in the championship in Hollymount on Monday. Congratulations to Lauren Murphy who has been selected for the county squad at this level, and to Andrea Fielding and Hannah Hearne who are on the county Under-13 development squad.

The Under-16 game against Craanford-Monaseed has been postponed until after the exams. Two squad members, Mikaela Lanigan and Aoife Fielding, attended the first training session for the county Under-15 development squad.

Well done to the Castlebridge Rackard League team, 4-7 to 1-0 winners over Bannow in Grantstown on Tuesday.

Good luck to the Under-10s who will take part in a blitz in Rathangan on Friday, May 22, at 6.30 p.m.
