There will be a Barn Dance in John Cullen's barn on Saturday 30th May. Full Bar & Barbecue. Tickets €15 at 8 30pm, Music by The Outfit followed by D.J. Prizes for the best dressed Cowgirl & Cowboy.

Gaa lotto

This weeks Lotto numbers: 2, 8, 23 and 27. There was no winner. Match 3s: Jenny Carlyle and Jack and Aaron Fagan. This weeks Jackpot is €10,000.

Tidy Towns

Tidy Towns application is upon us again and we are looking for people to come onboard and help with this worthwhile project. We are having a short meeting on Wednesday night at 8pm in the club room of the hall to plan our work for this year. Please come along and help with this worthwhile project.

Camogie Club Fundraiser

Oylegate Glenbrien Camogie Club will be hosting 'The Cube' on Saturday 6th June at 8.30pm in The Riverbank Hotel, Wexford. Tickets €10 with a door prize on the night. The committee will be out selling tickets in the coming weeks. If any business wishes to sponsor one of the games for The Cube please get in touch with one of the committee members. Hope to see you all there!


Parish Patrons

The Oulart Patron will be held on Sunday 28th June, beginning at 1.30pm. The Ballagh Patron will be held on 5th July.

Barn Dance

All roads lead to Cooney's Store, Raheenduff, on 20th June for Oulart-The Ballagh's Annual Barn Dance. Delicious BBQ food will be served until midnight. Music will be provided by Hot Ashphalt, followed by a Disco. As usual, the admission is a mere 10 euro. So for great craic, delicious food and good value, hurry to Raheenduff to enjoy the best Barn Dance in the South East.

Ballagh Boxing Club

The Ballagh Boxing Club will hold a Golf Classic on 12th June. The cost per team is 120 euro. Anyone who would like to enter a team or sponsor a tee-box should ring 087-6237409 or contact any club member for further details. Proceeds will go towards the building of the new club house.

Football Féile

Oulart-The Ballagh under 14 players will participate in Féile Peil on the weekend of 26-28 June. The club will host a team from Co. Leitrim, the Seán O'Heslin Club, Ballinamore..


Oulart-The Ballagh Camogie Club would like to thank all who supported and helped organise the recent Lifestyle Transformation fundraising events. A special word of praise and thanks to all the participants who, we hope, enjoyed and benefitted from the events and fitness classes. We wish the best of luck to Anais Curran who will represent the club, in the Féile Skills Competition, on 6th June in Portlaoise.

The Under 14 camogie team will be travelling to Portlaoise on 20th June. Oulart-The Ballagh Camogie Club sends best wishes to all who are doing examinations in the near future.

Curracloe school news

Well done to recent 'Split the Pot' winner Tommy Gordon who won €165. The next draw will be held on Monday, June 1. The cost is €2 per entry. Congratulations and well done to all the children who took part in the School sports day in Bree on May 20.

The Parents Association would like to sincerely thank everyone who supported the recent clothes collection in the school.

Ladies football

Well done to the Shelmalier girls U10 and U12 teams who played last week. Memberships are now due,and members are being ask to pay as soon as possible to ensure everyone is covered to train and play. The clothes collection take place on Saturday next, May 30. You can drop your donations of clothes on the morning or give them to a committee member during the week. Best of luck to all club members who begin their exams next week.

Social dancing

Yes, it is close to the end of the month and that means social dancing in Screen hall tonight, Tuesday, May 26. Dancing begins at 9.30 p.m and the music is being supplied by Glenn Flynn. Admission is only €8 and refreshments will be served. Your support would be much appreciated. All proceeds in aid of the upkeep of the hall. Last months date was a great night so do go along and give your support.

Scrap metal

Scrap metal collection continues with the skip located in C&C Building Providers yard in Screen . The yard is open from 8.30 a.m. until 5 p.m, Monday to Saturday. Coffee morning

Screen school Parents' Council will hold a Coffee morning in Freddie's on Monday, June 22 after the "End of Year" Mass at 10 a.m. All proceeds will go towards the outside development for the school. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

Screen school Memoirs

The organising committee of the Screen school Memoirs are delighted with the response to date and are now in the process of compiling all the photos and memorabilia. They plan to launch the book on Saturday, October 24 at a school re-union event for all to be held in Hotel Curracloe.

We extend our condolences to Mrs. Ursula Neville and family, Barnahask, Curacloe, on the death of her Father, Mr. Michael O`Connor, Tinnahask, Oylegate, who died on Sunday, May 17. His funeral Mass took place in St. Davids church, Oylegate on Tuesday, May 19 with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. R.I.P.

GAA club news

Showing great determination and hurling skills the Shelmalier senior hurlers overcame Ferns on a scoreline of 2-14 to 0-15 in the third round of the championship played in Bellefield on Saturday last in the third round of the championship.

They led from start to finish with Brian Doyle and Brian Malone opening the scoring before Joe Kelly fired over from a Ciaran O`Shaughnessy pass in the fifth minute. They extended their lead by six points to three before Ciaran O`Shaughnessy fired to the Ferns goal from a fine delivery from Eoghan Nolan.

Leading 1-8 to 0-8 at half time Joe Kelly kept firing over the points on the resumption to increase the Shels lead to 1-13 to 0-10 before Brian Malone got his sides second goal in the fifteenth minute after some fine combination play between Eoghan Nolan and Ciaran O`Shaughnessy. Ferns did put in a late rally but the Shels were always in control.

The junior hurlers recorded a 1-19 to 1-12 victory over Monageer in the third round of the championship played in St. Patricks Park on Friday evening last. Jody Donohoe, Willie O`Shaughnessy and Conor Byrne pointed early to get the Shels an early lead and a goal from Jody Donohoe in the fifteenth minute extended their lead to 1-5 to 0-3. Monageer came more into the game leaving only three points between the sides at half time 1-9 to 1-6.

Paraic O`Leary and Conor Byrne continued the Shels scoring in the second half with the final quarter scores coming from Alan Griffith, Conor Hearne, Willie O`Shaughnessy and Conor Byrne.

Charity Auction

Due to popular demand this year's Shelmalier Field Day which takes place on Monday next, June 1 will include a special Charity Auction with a large range of items on sale, and loads of outstanding bargains on offer for the whole family. So if it's a bed, a bicycle, a children toys or some garden tools you are looking for at bargain prices, Hollymount is the place to be, but go early to avoid disappointment.

Field Day

All roads lead to the Shelmalier GAA grounds in Hollymount on bank holiday Monday next, June 1 when the local GAA club hold their very popular family fun field day with a large range of activities on offer to cater for the whole family.

If it's children sports, archery, crazy golf, cart racing, penalty shooting, treasure hunt, hurling skills you are looking for, or perhaps you would like to enjoy either a nice cup of tea and a bun or a juicy burger, then Hollymount is the place to be on Monday next.

The club is asking for your support by donating bottles to the bottle stall, produce or all forms of baking. Club members will be calling to the homes in the parish during the week to collect these items if you wish to support.

Sheep Racing

A large number of fast moving sheep have been trained over the last number of weeks under the guidance of an expert sheep trainer in Curracloe in readiness for the annual Shelmalier sheep racing championship which take place as part of the Shelmalier family fun day in Hollymount on Monday of next week.

You can enjoy the thrills and excitement of placing your bet on your favourite sheep and watch them race their way to the finish line. To add to the excitement on the day you can also follow your favourite duck as they swim frantically around the river course.

Development Lotto

Results of lotto draw on behalf of Curracloe United AFC on Sunday night last, May 24 as follows. The numbers drawn were 11, 14, 22 & 28. There was no Jackpot winner and 1 match 3 winner who won €150, Brid & Caroline Curran Ballyvaloo. This weeks Jackpot stands at €16,500 and the draw will take place in the Curracloe Tavern on Sunday night next, May 31.


Hard luck to the Under-14s who lost their championship game to Glynn-Barntown on Thursday by 4-3 to 1-4.

Best wishes to the Under-10s in their blitz in Hollymount on Saturday, starting at 11.30 a.m.

The Castlebridge Rackard League side went down to a strong Glynn side last week and will now meet Rathnure.

The third annual camógathon will take place in Hollymount on Bank Holiday Monday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The prices are as follows: under-age skort, €15 with free socks; adult skort, €20 with free socks; anyone who brings in €50 on their sponsorship card for the camogathon will receive €5 off the price of their skort.
