Bannow/ Ballymitty

Music School

Two sisters Elaine Stafford and Darina Gleeson from the Bannow parish opened the Gleeson School of Music in Westpoint Clonard Wexford on Saturday 22nd August which was officially launched by Mayor of Wexford Ger Carthy .

The girls thanked their parents, teachers and all who helped them with their music through the years. The school is now taking bookings for various instruments and genres of music.

The Golden Eagles

The Golden Eagles had The {Presidents Day in Rathaspeck on Sunday 30th August in lovely conditions and 19 members played. Oliver "The Cute One "Roche played a blinder and won the First prize with Trevor Jones 2nd and Johnny Doyle 3rd. Birdie clubds and nearest the pin were also collected on the day. Our President Johnny Doyle was delighted with how the day went and thanks everyone who came and played.

Joannes Fitness

Joanne's Fitness 4 Women classes commenced on Monday 7th September in Carrig on Bannow. For all details please contact Joanne Waters on 087 2861727 and facebook Joanne Waters. All classes are suitable for beginners and advanced levels. Other venues include Ballycullane Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Campile Hall Wednesday evenings. Aerobic Combo, Boxercise, Circuits, something for everyone. Cost is €8 per class with multi class rates, starting at 7.30pm.

cycle for Homeless

Dennis Kenny will participate in Fr Peter McVerry's annual Dublin Wexford cycle on 19th September for the homeless. His target is to raise €2,000. Please donate at Bannow PO Wellingtonbridge PO or text Dennis at 0868200992. Your help is needed now more than ever.

Carrig on Bannow Bridge Club AGM will be held on Tuesday 8th September at 7pm. in Carrig Community Hall.

Camogie notes

The U12 girls played Blackwater away in the league championship and had a very good win 7 goals to nil.

In the U10 mini final played in Wexford park on Sunday 30th August the girls best Kilmore 4-1 to no score.

In the junior county semi final they beat Geraldine O Hanranans New Ross 4-12 to 4 points. Good luck in the County final.

GAA club news

This week's lotto will be €8,600. Draw will take place in Taghmon. Please have all monies and tickets down in the Complex for 7.30pm.

Both our Junior ladies teams are into County Finals over the next couple of weeks. Well done to the squads and their mentor's Davy McDonald and Bid O Sullivan over the Camogie and David Sinnott, Barry Sinnott, Paul Diskin and Colm Murphy over the football. Bring home the cups no bother to ye ! All dates and venues will be on Facebook page.

We wish Gary Mortan and Darragh Murphy speedy recoveries after their injuries during the Hurling quarter final match . Replay to be played this weekend.

The Family fitness fun day will take place on Sunday 27th September all details on our Facebook page and Twitter account.

The AGM of the Bannow / Ballymitty community alert will take place in Carrig community centre on Wednesday 23rd September. Please bring your text alert membership on the night.

Corach Ramblers FC

Well what a start! The two managers couldn't ask for much more from both teams. A colossal 11 goals between the two teams.

The A team had a shaky start going 1-0 down but there was no looking back after that! A massive 7 goals for their first game of the season! Hopefully it stays that way as they start in a higher division this year. Goals came from Adam Diskin, John Staples (5) and an own goal. The B team had a great 4-0 win against local rivals St Leonard's B. Goals came from Niall Harney (2), Ben Brosnan and Richie Walsh. Well done to both managers and both teams. Here's to a great season!

Corach Ramblers will host a Table Quiz in Staffords Pub in Tullycanna on Tuesday 20th October. A team/table of four costs €20. There will be a raffle on the night.

Our Lady's Island

Mass Times

From this Saturday, 12th September the Saturday Vigil Mass in Our Lady's Island returns to normal time of 7p.m. Sunday 11a.m. and Sunday in Tacumshane at 10a.m.

Coffee Shop

We would like to say a big 'Thank You' to our many volunteers who helped in any way. Also a big 'Thank You' for our many donations of food an goods-greatly appreciated. Thank you to our many customers, great to see all our regulars back again and new faces also. We had a great season once again. Mass will be said in thanks to all. Coffee Shop is closing on 9th September. Hope to see you all again next year.

GAA Club Super Cash Draw

Our Lady's Island GAA Club Super Cash Draw took place last Saturday night in the Island Bar. First prize €1,000, the winner was Thomas O'Connor, second prize €100 winner Cathal Devereux and third prize €100, winner Damien Donovan. Thanks to all who supported the draw which was a great success.

I.C.A. guild

The I.C.A. will resume again after the summer break with a meeting on Monday next, 14th September at 7.30p.m. in the Community Hall. Looking forward to seeing all members again-new members always welcome also.

G.A.A. News

Well done to the U-14 hurlers who won the semi-final against Askamore on Saturday. The boys were level at half-time but went on to win on a socreline of 1.6 to 1.2. They will now meet Buffers Alley in the County Final in the coming weeks. Well done to all involved.

As there was no winner of last week's Jackpot, Our Lady's Island G.A.A lotto now stands at €7,500 and tickets may be purchased from local shops and from club members at a cost of €1.50. There is also a match 3 prize up for grabs each week.

Golden Eagles

The golden Eagles were in Rathaspeck this week, Clive Kelly running out the winner, with Ger Stafford a close second. John Colfer was third on the day and also won the birdie club.

Next Sunday 13th September we are playing our last Full Course which is Waterford Castle with tee off at 12 noon. Please all be early and ready to play. See you there

Bag Collection

Cleariestown Community Playgroup are holding a bag collection on Monday 28th September. This is a great fundraiser for the playschool and a great excuse to have a good clearout before the winter sets in.

Items for the bags include used clothes (men's, women's and children's) shoes, bags, belts, curtains, bed linen ( no duvets) , old soft toys . Old mobile phones will also be collected. Bags may be left at the community centre any weekday morning between 9.30-12.30.

Scouts registration

Registration for new scouting year will take place in Tomhaggard social centre on Wednesday 9th September from 7-8pm.

There's very limited places in cubs (age 9-11) and scouts (12-15). There's place in beavers (age 6-9) and Ventures (15-18) groups. Meetings will resume for cubs on Wednesday 16th September from 7-8.30pm, beavers Saturday 19th September from 10-11.30 and scouts and ventures Wednesday 23rd September from 7-8.30pm. Women's Shed

The Shed will resume in Tomhaggard social centre on Mondday 7th September from 10am to 1pm. It is open to any ladies who want to learn new skills, share own skills or just come along for a chat and cuppa.

There's plenty of exciting activities planned for the next few months. Cost is €5 each towards running costs of the group.


Ballycogley Players are putting the finishing touches to one act plays selection. Anyone interested in getting involved or reading for a part should contact any member of the group. The comedy plays will be performed during the opera festival and other local venues.
