Around the Districts


Late Tommy Roche

The death occurred last Saturday after a short illness of the late Thomas (Tommy) Roche, The Quay, Fethard on Sea. Tommy was a well known and popular member of the community and in particular anyone who visited the Quay area, whether they were locals or visitors. Tommy is sadly missed by his wife Ann, daughters Bridget, Maria & Ellen, sons in law, grandchildren, relatives & friends. His Funeral Mass took place in St. Aidan's Church, Poulfur on Monday with burial afterwards in the new cemetery Poulfur.

Coiste na nOg

The Coiste na nOg held its AGM recently in Neville's and the meeting was well attended. The committee selected for the forthcoming year is as follows: Chairperson Jim Byrne; Vice Chairperson Tommy Power; Secretary Ger McLaughlin; Asst Secretary Liam Doyle; Treasurer Vera Walsh. Mentors were appointed to all ages-U8 Patrick Gleeson, Andrew Hannon, Brian Cullen; U10 Dominic Foley, John Hickey, Patrick Gleeson; U12 Jim Byrne, Neilus Nunan, Ger McLaughlin, Derek O'Grady; U14 Tommy Power, U16 Joe Dillon, Minor Mark Hanton, Sean Foley. The committee also took the opportunity to express appreciation to everyone who helped out in what was a successful and eventful year and look forward to building on this in 2016

Progressive 45

There was a tie for first place in the last Progressive 45 Card Game in Colclough Hall, Saltmills between Liam Power, Elish Breen & Mary Murphy and Billy Shannon, Tommy Morrissey & Tony Murphy. In third place were Johnnie Doyle, Eileen Doyle and Dick Power. The last game draw was won by Willie White, Mary White & Carmel Kehoe. The raffle winners were Johnnie Doyle, Kathleen Cadogan and John Sinnott.

Ladies Club Calendar

St.Mogues Ladies Club Calendar for 2016 is on sale now. It's jam packed with top quality photos of all our teams and much more. An ideal stocking filler for Xmas for young and old at home or far away. Calendars are available in Dillon's Londis, the Post Office, Salon 60 and Miskella's.

Weekly Lotto €5,500

There was no winner of the Club Lotto Jackpot of €5,400 on 14th December. The club had no Match 3 Winner. The winning numbers were 6, 19, 26, 30 and bonus number 38.

The last draw before Christmas was to be on Monday 21st December. The next draw after that will be on Monday 11th January. Fethard/St.Mogues would like to thank everyone who supports the Weekly Lotto every week as it is the main source of revenue for the day to day running of the club. We wish you all a Happy Christmas and peaceful New Year and look forward to your continued support in 2016.

Table Quiz

St Leonards soccer club are holding a Table Quiz in Rosie's Bar in Dunmain on Wednesday 30th December. A team of four costs only €20. So if you are looking for a fun night out after the Christmas celebrations, come along to Rosies that night at 9pm.


Sincere sympathy is extended to Robert Flynn of Nash, Anna Kehoe of Boley, John Flynn of Drealistown and indeed all members of the Flynn family of Drealistown that have moved from the parish on the death recently of Theresa Flynn in England. The Gusserane area was shocked and saddened to hear of Theresa's untimely passing in her adopted home of Bedfordshire. Theresa's remains will be cremated in England and will be returned to Gusserane for burial in early January.

The Kube

Gusserane GAA club will be staging a version of the popular TV gameshow, The Kube, in March. Various fundraisers are currently taking place in the lead up to this event and your support for these fundraisers would be most appreciated. All proceeds will go towards the installation of floodlights at Tom Somers Park in Gusserane. Find Gusserane O'Rahillys on Facebook or follow them on Twitter for further details.


There was no jackpot winner last week in the last Tintern Draw when the numbers drawn were 6, 17, 19 and 27. The match three winners were Muriel Culleton of Boley, Patricia Foran of Ballygarvan, Claire Power of Knockea, Emma Flynn of Cloonagh and Bea Doran of Tintern. Next week's jackpot stands at €7,100.


Winners in the hall were Pat Ryan, Tom Corcoran and Watty Byrne. Second went to Paul Whelan, Brendan Colfer and Eddie McDonald. Third were Tommy Morrissey, Mary Doran and Johnny Colfer while fourth went to Larry Larkin, Sean Doyle and Joe Ryan. The last game draw went to Tom Culleton and Joan Kehoe. Raffle winners were Declan Egan, John Sinnott, Eddie McDonald and Larry Power.


Historical calendar

The 2016 Horeswood History Calendar for 2016 is now on sale in local shops or from Historical Committee members, Tom Grennan, John Flynn, Michael Walsh and Denis Cadogan. This is the 14th production and includes 50 photos covering various organisations throughout the parish and snippets of historical interest. The production is a joint effort with profits going to Horeswood Coiste na nOg and Horeswood Historical society.

The Div 1 and 2 Racketball semi finals will be played the week after Christmas. The Div. 1 qualifiers are B Furlong, B Cummins, j Byrne and L O'Brien while in Div 2 A Sutton will play P Hunt and N Barrett meets D Cadogan. Round 7 of Div 3 and the ladies will also be played that week.

Highlights of 2005

10years ago the Horeswood Senior footballers made history by bringing a first title to the parish. Denis Cadogan has produced an 90 minute DVD capturing the highlights of 4 of the games, interviews with the captain and management and photos and newspaper cuttings. It's available from Denis Cadogan, eileen O'Sullivan or Sean Lyng for €10 with proceeds going to Coiste na nOg coaching.

Christmas Fair

The group is open to Parents and their pre-school children or toddlers. The group meets every Tuesday morning during school term from 10am to 12pm at South West Wexford Community Development Project and is always open to new members. No need to book, just pop-in and see what we are up to! The group are now finished up for Christmas and will return on Tuesday 4th January 2016.

Blokes with Cameras

Blokes with Cameras have now broken up for the Christmas and will meet up again at 7pm on Wednesday 20th January at the South West Wexford Community Development Project in Ramsgrange. Make a note and come along, all levels welcome. Contact reception on 051 389418 for more information.

Yoga at SWWCDP

St. Louis Stitchers

Women's Group

Shelbourne Women's meets every Monday morning at South West Wexford Community Development Project (SWWCDP) from 10am to 12pm. New members are very welcome.

Irish Dancing

Irish Dancing continues every Monday in South West Wexford Community Development Project (SWWCDP), Ramsgrange from 3.30-4.30pm. All Welcome.

Fusion Café

Fusion Café will run every Tuesday (7pm-9pm) and Friday (3.30pm-5.30pm) until Christmas. We look forward to seeing everyone back and welcome old and new members. Circuit Classes

Kids Fitness Classes

Fun based exercise and physical activity classes for kids. Classes are designed to develop kid's agility, balance, coordination, running, jumping, throwing, catching, passing and flexibility through fun and games.

Commencing Week January 4th 2016, age groups Junior Infants to Sixth Class. Cost is €25 for 5 week programme, classes are for 1 hour and booking is essential. Christmas Kids Fit Camp on Tuesday 29th December, 1st & 2nd Class 10am-1pm & 3rd & 4th Class 2pm-5pm, Cost €10. Booking is ESSENTIAL. Ramsgrange Steppers

The Ramsgrange Steppers meet each Thursday outside the Community Cafe (SWWCDP) at 9.30am (walk begins at 9.45am sharp). This is a social walking group that will suit all ability. We look forward to seeing you and please pass on the information to anyone you may feel would benefit from getting out and getting active.

Hope to see in 2016 for our first New Year walk which will take place on January 7th. The Ramsgrange Steppers is now a registered walk group with Get Ireland Walking. Also, keep Saturday 9th January free for upcoming National Walk Day events. Details to follow...

Duncannon AFA is launching a 40th Year Anniversary Book next Spring 2015/2016 season. The club needs a large amount of vital information from its early days. If you are a former player, supporter or have been involved with the club in any way, please forward your stories, experiences or memories along with any photos or documents for publication. GAA Club Notes

St James GAA club will celebrate its successful season of 2015 with a Dinner Dance in The Talbot Hotel on Saturday 16th January. The Senior Football team will be presented with their medals on the night by John Maughan who managed Mayo to three All-Ireland football finals and also managed Clare to a Munster Football title in 1992. The Ladies Football Intermediate team will also be presented with their county medals on the night also. Tickets are available for €35 and can be ordered by contacting Joe Murphy (087-9506398).
