Feast of St. Blaise is on Wednesday 3rd February. Throats will be blessed at 8.30am, 11.30am and after Mass at 7.30pm.

Operation Transformation

Crossabeg Ballymurn Ladies Gaelic Football Club's Operation Transformation with 'Between the Bells' began with large numbers last Tuesday night in Crossabeg Community Field. Kids in buggies, young children, parents and grandparents from Oylegate, Glenbrien, Crossabeg and Ballymurn turned up in large numbers to walk, jog and run 'Between the Bells'.

After warming up, a bell is rung and 30 minutes later a second bell is rung. The distance people cover is recorded each week between now and Easter Monday. We hope the community will improve their fitness by 10% in this period. Nutrition & fitness information is provided and organised walks/runs will take place over the 10 week period. We also cater for and weigh people who want to focus on weight loss. €2 per adult, €1 per u-16.

Gaa Notes

This weeks Lotto numbers: 9, 13, 16 and 19. There was no jackpot winner. Two Match threes: Mary Doyle and Ann Doyle. This weeks Jackpot is €8,400.

Our minor footballers had a good win over The Starlights in the Jim Byrne Cup recently and are now through to the semi final. Playing against the wind in the first half our lads went in at half time seven points down. But a spirited performance in the second half saw them win by 4 points.

The Adult championship draws were made last week and our intermediate hurlers are in a group with Oilgate, Craanford, Bunclody, Blackwater and Monageer.

While our intermediate A footballers will play in the group with Geraldine O'Hanrahans, Cloughbawn, Kilrush, Volunteers and Davidstown.

Ballymurn NS shall hold a parent information evening on Tuesday 1st March at 7.30pm. This meeting is for the parents of children starting school in September 2016.

Adult Jiving Classes

Ballymurn Youth club

We are delighted to have Mairead Duffy coming to the Youthclub to give members a talk & Video next Friday night 5th February. Mairead is an FDYS Youth Counsellor and will be discussing the whole area of Cyberbullying so we would encourage all our members to come along.

Reminder that the last day to pay off on the Trip to Manchester is Friday 26th February, that's only 4 more Friday's!

Camogie News

There will be a registration night held on Friday 12th February from 7.30-8.30pm in Oylegate Community Centre. We would ask that all players/parents/guardians attend. Membership for the year is as follows; Working Adults €80. Non-workingAdults/Students/U18/U16/U14/U12 €55. U10/U8 €35. Managers/Trainers/Social Members €25. Members are not insured until membership is paid.

Bree/Galbally

Parent/Toddler Group

With effect from this Wednesday February 3rd Bree Parent and Toddler Group will meet on Wednesday mornings in Bree Community Centre from 10.30am. to 12 noon instead of Friday mornings. All are most welcome to come along.

Bree Macra Notes

Best of luck to the Bree Macra Capers team and their supporters who travel to the All Ireland Final in Mallow, Co Cork on Saturday February 6th. The team faces opposition from 5 other teams in what is sure to be a great nights entertainment. Well done to the members who traveled to a charity table quiz hosted by Ballindaggin Macra in aid of St. Vincent de Paul. Upcoming events include volleyball, question time, drama and basketball. Bree ICA News

The next monthly meeting of Bree ICA takes place on February 16th in the Community Centre at 8pm. The meeting will be open to all from 9pm 9 o'clock when we will have a demonstration of Laughing Yoga (to help with the winter blues) and a sale of accessories-handbags, jewellery, scarves etc. at €5 each. No admission but we will have a raffle and of course some light refreshments.

Bree Athletic Club

Indoor training for the younger age groups on Thursday evenings in Bree Community Centre at 7pm and for the older age group at 7.45pm. Outdoor training takes place on Monday and Wednesday evenings in the field. High Jump training takes place in Galbally Hall on Saturday nights at 7pm. Registration fees are now due.

Galbally Tractor Run

The Galbally Annual Tractor Run in aid of Galbally Parish Funds will take place on Sunday, May 29th.

Community Games

Draughts & Chess: Well done to the two Bree Davidstown teams which took part in the county finals of the Draughts competition last Saturday. The U10 team was Sarah O'Leary, Gavin Sinnott, Gracie Kehoe, Emily Dunne, and Riona Kehoe. The U14 team of Michael Humphrey, Cormac Kehoe, Odin Doyle, Odhran Kehoe, Lucy Kehoe and Aoibhinn Crean were the only team in the U14 competition and will now go forward to represent the county in the Leinster competition. Good luck to those representing the Bree Davidstown area in the County Chess U13 final this Thursday.

Quiz and Talent: U14 Quiz Trials for Bree Davidstown Community Games will take place in Bree Hall on Friday 12th February at 9pm. Biggest Loser

Ballyhogue GAA's Biggest Loser cycle event was a great success with Nicky Dempsey first home in the 40km cycle. The Walk / Run is on this Sunday 7th February from Bree. The Bog Run (Byrnes Bog), weigh out and closing event are on Saturday February 27th. Training for the events take place on Tuesdays with Una Doyle and Thursdays with Johnny Roche from 7.30pm at the GAA grounds. The championship draws for 2016 hav been made. Penny Euro Bank

Bree Penny Euro Bank has resumed taking in savings for 2016 following the Christmas break. The Penny Bank is open to all members of the community who would like to save towards Christmas 2016 with amounts saved being distributed to the members at the end of November. Deposit envelopes are available from Byrnes Shop and Bree Post Office.

Text Alert AGM

The annual general meeting of the Crossabeg Community Text Alert scheme will take place on Monday, February 22 at 8 p.m in Kyle Forge. This is an Open Meeting and all are welcome. New members will be registered on the night. As ever, the focus is on ways and means of combating robberies in the area. A guest speaker will be along to explain the Social and Panic button alarm system. This is a real boon to vulnerable people and well worthwhile to get to know how it functions. Put that date in your diaries.

Story Telling

Another great night of excitement, with story telling, singing and good music will take place in Kyle Forge on Sunday, February 7 with proceedings getting underway at 8 p.m. Refreshments are also served.

Feast of St. Blaise

This Wednesday, February 3 is the Feast of St. Blaise.Throats will be blessed at 8 a.m and 10 a,m.and again in the evening at 6.30 p.m. It is a long standing tradition for parishioners to supply candles for the church which in turn are used throughout the year. If you wish to have some of your own blessed, please make sure that you put your name on a piece of paper round them.

Church news

Friday next, February 5 is the First Friday of the month and the sick and housebound will be visited at the usual times. Mass every Wednesday and Friday morning at 9.30 a.m. The Sacrament of Confirmation will be administered to children from Crossabeg national school on Monday, February 15 at 2 p.m.

Soccer

The local Soccer club are holding a "Mr & Mrs" competition just before Valentines Day. Why not go along and join in and see which couples really do know everything about each other to win the top prize of a hotel break.

The event takes place in Foleys on Friday, February 12 kicking off at 9 p.m. A great nights entertainment is guaranteed. South East Radio's Michael Sinnott will act as M.C. for the event. Why not go along and join in what will be a great night for all, with plenty of guaranteed laughs.

The couples competing are Danny and Jamie Lee, Jonathan and Debbie, Jay and Katie, Ken and Assumpta, Servas and Fredrica & finally Anthony and Amanda. The very best of luck to them all.

Ladies Mini Marathon

It is that time of year again, so all you ladies who would like to get fit and raise money for the Tracie Lawlor Trust for Cystic Fibrosis this year are asked to get in touch now to get your marathon pack and join the organisers in this years Ladies Mini Marathon in Dublin on the June Bank Holiday weekend. The organisers are now taking names (and will supply transport and a meal) so don't delay-get in touch on 087-1661703 for further details.

Oylegate/Glenbrien club held their annual general meeting on November 21 and the following committee were elected for the coming year:- Margaret O'Connor (Chairperson) Christine Martin (Secretary) Tina Farrell (Assistant Secretary) Siobhan O'Mahoney (Treasurer) Megan Storey (Assistant Treasurer) Siun O' Mahoney (County Board rep and Childrens Officer) Lorraine O'Connor (Development Officer).

There will be an registration night on Friday, February 12 from 7.30-8.30 p.m. and will be held in Oylegate community centre. The committee are asking that all players, parents and guardians to attend. Coffee Morning

A Coffee morning in aid of Youth Suicide Prevention Ireland will take place in Kyle Forge on Saturday next, February 6 from 10.30 a.m. until 1 p.m. The event is being hosted by Alannah Griffin and your generous support would be much appreciated.

Annual Dinner Dance

The Cardiac Rehabilitation annual Dinner Dance will take place in the Ferrycarrig hotel on Friday, February 19 at 8 p.m. Music on the night will be provided by Jimmy Hogan and Lar Kenny. Tickets are priced at €25. Please give your support to this worthy cause.

Parish Concert

There was a very good attendance at the Ferrycarrig hotel on Friday night of last week for the annual parish concert. The organising committee wish to thank all who supported the event, from purchasing tickets to turning out on the night, those who took part in the concert and those who purchased raffle tickets.

There were many familiar faces from the parish taking part during the evening as well as the ever popular Wexford Male Voice Choir, making for a most enjoyable evenings entertainment. The raffle winners were Mary Kenny, Kathleen Hayes, Aaron Quinn, Grainne Fortune, Maura Joyce, Mai Carty and Joe Berney.

Condolences

We extend our condolences to the family of the late Thomas G (Robin) Grahame who died at his residence, Kilpatrick, Kyle, Crossabeg, on Monday, January 18. His funeral service took place in Mackens funeral home on Friday, January 29 followed by cremation in Dublin.

To his wife Ivy, brothers and sisters and extended family, neighbours and friends, we extend our deepest sympathy. R.I.P.
